Well, they did start kissing for no other reason than they'd be sitting so far apart from each other. Failing to reevaluate the relationship isn't 100% unbelievable. The marriage fantasy is a much bigger stretch, but Haruka's childish enough that it could just barely squeeze into the framework of being "mere" superextraspecial friends.

Reading it again, does it look like Nico asking if anything's going on with Nozomi is essentially her being in denial about being friendzoned to anybody else? I didn't catch it on the first readthrough, but it definitely looks like Nico was expecting her to say something else.

Speaking as an absolute deal, it's certainly true; each series has room for a discussion regarding its sub and its dub. And when one completely changes what a character says, it's definitely ripe for criticism.

It looks like her body is behind, but she's reaching to force the two apart.

A slightly more likely option is that they got back together after their husbands died(a prerequisite for having kids in the pre-modern era, which is a prerequisite for grandchildren by definition), having stayed close enough the entire time that their kids ended up marrying each other. So the kid could easily be thinking maternal vs paternal grandmother, without necessarily realizing what's going on.

This is a big long "how?". To my understanding, it's canon that all Friends are female. Even ignoring that, there's only ever one per species, so there's nobody to mate with anyway.
