Oh shit, bois and grils, its real!

REDflame23 Jul 2, 2017 1:29AM

It's official.

RPPuzzle Jul 2, 2017 1:43AM

Eh is it really official?

Hibari Ruri Jul 2, 2017 2:11AM

WTF KonaKaga is REAL.
well it's pretty much canon in the ova anyway. Kagami saying "I want to F@#$ konata" says it all.

Polycell Jul 2, 2017 3:09AM

Has there ever been another pairing that gets this much official artwork and merchandise with them as a couple without them being officially together?

Chantelune Jul 2, 2017 3:41AM

Well, I'd say Nanoha and Fate, but they actually have much more than those two.

Eeehhh? D: but i think wedding dresses on both look nice D: x(

gork5 Jul 2, 2017 9:50PM

sorry but official don't equal canon (no matter how bad we want it)

AimWorks Jul 3, 2017 12:41AM

I thought Konata would be the one to have the suit but I imagine how silly she'd look trying to pick up her wife

Cannibal Jul 3, 2017 9:09AM

There are several official artworks for their wedding and this one comes directly from the creator of the series them self. Why shouldn't we take it as canon at this point?

Komi028 Jul 3, 2017 11:18AM

The anime already made it canon, no need for official art anymore.

gork5 Jul 3, 2017 9:07PM

from the evidence i've been presented i don't think it's canon unless it says somewhere the creator officially confirmed it

A5PECT Jul 3, 2017 9:22PM

Sometimes, even when the creator wants it, it doesn't become canon.

gork5 Jul 3, 2017 10:21PM

i want it to be canon as much as anyone else but i want proof that it is

Cannibal Jul 4, 2017 8:22AM

@gork5 Creator officially confirmed it? This very picture was drawn by the creator.

@A5PECT Unless contradicted in the anime/manga the creator retains power of "word of god."

Nezchan Jul 4, 2017 9:42AM

There's a difference between "the creator drew a picture" and "it's officially part of the story', and no amount of wishful thinking will change that.

That same creator drew them in a scene from The Graduate too, but Konata still ain't played by Dustin Hoffman (although he is kinda short...).

Cannibal Jul 4, 2017 9:54AM

Word of God is still a thing, and unless contradicted there is literally no reason not to think of it as canon. It's exactly how we know that NanoFate is real, no wishful thinking required.

Nezchan Jul 4, 2017 9:56AM

Wishful thinking again. "Word of God" would involve the author actually saying that they get married in the story. I know you really, really, REALLY want it to be true, but you'll have to settle for "the artist likes to draw wedding pics of them".

Cannibal Jul 4, 2017 10:03AM

Again, how is it wishful thinking if I'm staring at the picture itself? Again, no wishful thinking required, all the evidence in the show coupled with the author verbally confirming it at least being one sided and now this picture cements it. Don't know why you want to act like it doesn't when we rely on less for other well accepted couples.

Ratte Jul 4, 2017 12:58PM

No, we just like to think that they are couples based on the few bones the authors threw us or felt comfortable sharing. (See VOICE ACTORS "confirming" fan-favourite couples like Nanoha and Fate + Miku and Hibiki)

By that logic, I would think that Miyuki is actually a reverend instead of it possibly being cosplay.

Cannibal Jul 4, 2017 1:52PM

Doesn't matter what you want to define it as. It's not wishful thinking, it's cold hard facts. NanoFate was confirmed by Tsuzuki. And I guess you guys got confused about the picture being literal "they got married" instead of what we are talking about, "they are a couple".

Ratte Jul 4, 2017 2:32PM

They fuck all but confirmed it, they danced around it in their usually tippy-toe-y way, going, "Yeah, maybe you are on to something there ~wink wink~, that's why the butcher said Homura PROBABLY loves Madoka. PROBABLY! You would think the author himself had some clarity on that, but that's just how it goes.

Who knew Miyuki is a reverend, context, what is that?

A5PECT Jul 4, 2017 7:20PM

It's clear the author likes to entertain the idea of Konata and Kagami being a romantic couple. But for whatever reason - their editor/publisher forbids them, they fear of negative audience reaction, they don't think its relevant to the core purpose of the series, they're the world's greatest tease, whatever it may be - they're stopping just short of incorporating it into the story proper. It isn't canon.

It's suggested, implied, hinted at (very strongly). But it isn't canon.

Ah. Some of you said it better than I could. This "official" art seems to occupy a very strange place in fandom. I stumbled on these years ago, and like many here, was hoping it was cannon only to find that while they were indeed made by the owners of the series they weren't part of the story and it was like they were just for "kicks." Or maybe you could think of them as promotional artwork. Or how western superhero comics occasionally have covers that depict things that never end up happening in the comic.

I will have to find my sources but from what I remember the creator wasn't actually shipping them but fine with people seeing it that way. Konata even says she's not actually a lesbian in the English translated manga even though she obsessively plays games where winning over girls romantically is the goal.

...while they were indeed made by the owners of the series they weren't part of the story and it was like they were just for "kicks."

Basically the creators are making fan art of their own work.

Vankomycin Jul 5, 2017 7:09AM

Also, there are at least three pictures on Dynasty of these two getting married, and each one is done by a different artist. But they all have the Official tag.

So which one of these artists is actually THE creator?

Cannibal Jul 5, 2017 9:58AM

Kagami literally says "I want to *** with Konata!" in the OVA, but, yes, let's all just sit here pretending it's not canon despite the word of god even though you won't use the same standards for couples like NanoFate. In the meantime I guess YumiKuri, PapiCoco, and FinexIzetta are not canon either by the same standard.

@Vankomycin The author is Yoshimizu Kagami, the guy that drew this very picture. Which makes it much more significant than the other official wedding art of the two.
