While I do like this series, I just don't see it as good enough to even compare with YagaKimi. It is good, but I wouldn't put it as the best ongoing yuri manga either.
But again, YMMV

Understandable, I definitely wrote that while I was still on the high of having just read Chapter 7, haha. I'm honestly not sure if it's at YagaKimi level, but I was noticing lots of structural similarities between the two (thoughtful plot, unique and compelling subject matter, complex and engaging character interactions) that led me to draw that comparison. I'd still love to see this as an anime, though.

I really like how some chapters are goofy and stupid fun and some get real heavy, but it never feels jarring or out of place.

Holy shit. I've been thinking about what the next yuri manga to live up to the genius and top-notch quality of Bloom Into You might be, and this is it right here. It's SO unique, engaging, thoughtful, and carefully planned out (all things that made YagaKimi great), and the kiss scenes are HOT as FUCK while still managing to be tasteful and not fanservice-y. The potentially controversial subject matter is so expertly handled, as well.

This has my vote (not that there is a vote...or idk maybe there is) for the next yuri manga anime adaptation. It would make such a solid foundation for an anime, and I think it could rival YagaKimi in quality and popularity.

I remember reading somewhere that Umi has the same age as Maki but they still are senpai-kouhai, is it true?

Well, Umi was born in March and Maki in April, so I think they are actually only a month apart. Because of when Japanese school years start and end though, they ended up in different years, I think. Umi is one of the youngest in her year, and Maki is one of the oldest in hers, unless I'm missing something.

This chapter does indeed spark joy. There's no heterosexual explanation for that one.

Is the punchline the fact that he wouldn't have any way of knowing how "close" they were (since I don't think they've told their neighbors what their relationship is) unless he'd heard them going at it from the other room, and so by saying "not as close as you two" he's accidentally admitting that he (and Madoka, apparently) overheard them? If so, that took embarrassingly long to figure out...

Why make the chapters 7.1 and 7.2

In this case, it means Chapter 7 Part 1 and Chapter 7 Part 2. Yes, it's a little confusing since bonus chapters use similar numbering, but it seems like bonus chapters on this site generally start at .5 (so 7.5, 7.6, and so on). If the decimal is .1, it's probably a Part 1.
