I enjoyed Volume 8 too, which happened to come out on my birthday. I bought the Kindle version through Amazon.

One thing I found strange about the fan translation on this site was that Yuu doesn't call Touko "Nanami-senpai" during the scene in the cafe, but she does in the localization. As such, Touko's remark about Yuu calling her "senpai" again seemed a bit strange when I read it in the fan translation.

Fan Translation: "They were really excited to see you. Asking for your autograph and all."
Localization: "You were a big hit with them, Nanami-senpai. They even asked for autographs."

English Localization have honorifics ? Cause French Localization didn't, but at least use the name/first name distinction. The only time i see "Senpai" use was from Sayaka's first flashback when she called her Senpai of Middle school.

Yes, the English localization uses honorifics, partly because the senpai-kohai dynamic often comes up in this series. If there's a second season, I wonder how the dub will handle the scene in which Yuu calls Touko, "Touko-senpai," and Touko encourages her to drop the "senpai."

Ummm what the hell is that with Kurokawa? Is she going to end up crazy like Izumi?
As for the guy, I wouldn't worry about him, he's probably going to be a plot device for Fujishiro to realize her feelings for Kurokawa or something.
I just don't want to see Kurokawa's character getting botched too

I'm personally reminded of Citrus, and how it continually introduced new characters to drive the plot forward (for example, Himeko provided exposition on Mei's past, Matsuri stirred up some drama, and the twins ended up getting Yuzu and Mei together). Unfortunately, this approach tends to result in a lot of characters not doing much or developing once their story arcs end, as well as a somewhat bloated cast.

This is a nice animated image, but I can't help but wish something would happen once Touko's battery fully charges.

Apart from the questionable English, I noticed a contradiction. In Panel 3 on the first page, Aoi says she doesn't have any friends, but then introduces Hinata as her childhood friend on Page 2.

Yuri Girl 1001 posted:

people at ch.1: "omg a mother-daughter yuri"

Taiyaki: "This ain't even my final form"

And then ch. 7 Taiyaki, maybe: "Wa ha ha! I still have one more form!"

I wonder if the great grandmother will show up?

The mother's twin

I also wonder if we'll see Sumika's mother at some point. Considering that both she and her daughter became mothers at a relatively young age, it's possible that Sumika's mother is still alive; if she had Sumika at 21 she's probably 78.

Just pointing out that in the raw the grandmother asks Sayaka to call her okaa-*sama*

Interesting detail. Of course, "okaa-sama" is generally translated as "Mother," since it's more formal and respectful than average ("okaa-san" seems to be equivalent to "Mom").

Yep its a direct rip from the renta site. But wait until you see chapter 3.

Being yurika is suffering.

The summary from Renta for Chapter 3 says the following.

"Takase has come to realize her feelings toward Rinko; feelings she shouldn't have for another female... But it's already too late."

Looks like there won't be a happy ending for Takase.

One thing I like about how the story handled the rape/sexual harassment/whatever you want to call it was that it wasn't the direct cause for Takase leaving the company. Kazama got fired, which is the least he deserved, but the real thing that pushed Takase out was the rest of the office turning on her, especially Takase's so-called friend Aida.

I notice that the series doesn't seem to have honorifics for some reason, since Rinko calls Takase "Ms. Takase," as well as English sound effects, which makes it read a bit like an official localization.

Her first name is Parker. Like everyone else, the characters call her by her last name.

Doesn't Kou coming back to save the day like that cheapen Aoba's "arc" in the first half of the chapter (and those before)? She seemed to be stepping up to the task only to end up still being saved.

Perhaps, but one thing I'm interested to see is Kou getting a second chance to act as art director. She still regrets her failure in the past, but perhaps she can do a better job this time. Besides, Aoba's the character designer, so she has her chance, too.

Assuming a reader cares about stuff like that, it must have been heartbreaking.

You're right, I always make the same mistake assuming the possibility that weebs have any literary standards.

Ohh, let's see who can out-sarcasm the other!

I agree; that sarcasm and negativity is part of the reason why I mostly stopped checking this comments section.

As for why I'm back, Volume 9 was just released in English, and covers Chapter 91-102, so maybe we can create a division for Volume 9. Here's hoping Volume 10 will come out by the end of the year.

There's a mistake on Page 3 of Chapter 2; Koromo calls Touka "Ryuuka."

One thing I find interesting is that Yuu calls Haru "Haru-chan," but still calls Sayaka "Saeki-senpai." Are Yuu and Haru particularly close?

Just so we're clear, how long ago was Chapter 2 first published? Was it before the coronavirus?

Three Houses. These two are from the Ashen Wolves, a house exclusive to the DLC.

While it was nice to learn a little more about Kaoru's mother's death, I'm still curious as to why Uta's mother lost her medical license. Her conversation with Kaoru suggests that she'd made some sort of mistake that resulted in Kaoru's mother's death, possibly out of recklessness (considering her cavalier attitude toward performing an unlicensed medical exam on her daughter-in-law), but maybe that's just my imagination.

Just a piece of advice Shimizu-san. If you planning on spending the rest of your life, with someone, you might want to start calling her by her given name.
While I know Japan is a different culture, I still can't get my head around calling someone you're dating by their family name, especially if you get to the point you're sleeping with them. It just feels just so damn impersonal.

She did call her "Akane-san" when speaking to her father, although from what I've heard, it's generally expected to use first names+san on someone if you're talking about them with their family.

Other than that, I'll second your point about the first names. It's true that in Japan, first names are generally reserved for people who are close (although how readily people make the jump to a first-name basis depends on the series; in some series, characters might even get onto a first-name basis with people they've just met), but one would think Shimizu and Maekawa would be close enough by now.

Where is chapter 22?

It's up now.

Personally, I'd like to see the chapters that the anime hasn't adapted yet, but it's always nice to see new scanlated chapters, particularly the ones that show how the manga is different from the anime.

We're now up to the penultimate episode, and something's bugging me. How did Ao fail the screening exam for the Shining Star Challenge, while Mira passed? It seems as though it should be the other way around.

I assume Ao was very formal and showed little passion, whereas Mira probably showed a lot of passion as well as knowledge, she is hardly any less knowledgeable then Ao at this point. Ao was accepted to observe once she showed how passionate she was, by gate crashing.

That's certainly possible.

Now that the first season of the anime is over (without spoiling anything, it isn't anything resembling a conclusion to the story) I have to ask- how many chapters have currently been released? I've heard that there's at least 33 chapters out, and I know that there's a lot that hasn't been scanlated yet, but I'd like to be sure.

Incidentally, I wonder if there'll be a second season, since Chikage and Nana were introduced fairly late in the series. It helps that there's still another year and a half before Ao and Mira graduate from high school, so there's probably a fair amount of material that can be covered (even if Episodes 9 and 10 sped through January through July).

Ahh, I really had hopes for this series. Cute and had good progression. Alas, it seems to be abandoned now and no sign of anyone else picking it up.

At least we've got New Game, which treads similar ground.

I agree. Not only is Honoka similar in some ways to Aoba, Takumi reminds me a little of Umiko, being a brutally honest employee who often carries a model gun. Mari, like Rin, also mistakes their new hire for a child that doesn't belong there.

I personally didn't mind the part mentioning in passing that Erisa had dated multiple girls since Mariya had last seen her. It shows that Erisa has changed, but that in the end, she had a special bond with Mariya that she couldn't get with any of the other girls she went out with.

For a moment, the page numbers were out of order. After Page 1, they went to 10-19 before going to 2, at which point they went to 20-29 before going to 3, and so on and so forth. Luckily, it seems to be fixed now.

As for the manga, it seems like an interesting start, even if it has a similar "Novice becomes friends with a veteran" premise as Laid Back Camp. I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes from here.

Incidentally, this seems to be the first time I've made the first comment for a manga series on this site.

I read the chapter, and it wasn't nearly as confusing as I'd feared. It has two separate but related plotlines and effectively brings the arc to a conclusion. I'm looking forward to seeing where things go from here.
