It's not great. To its credit, I would say that the action sequences are very good and sometimes the cute/funny scenes are cute and funny. Sometimes.

The first volume is very easy to get through, though, so it could be worth a shot. The fandom seems to take what they want from canon and fill the rest with fanon, often in the form of expansive AUs like this one.

Okay, I gave it a shot. I was actually pleasantly surprised (perhaps only because I didn't have high expectations to begin with). The plot is a mess, they've got to get better writers.

Okay, after reading some chapters I have to say I actually liked this (!) and I didn't really get any WTF moments (!!)
It didn't seem overly strange to me. Or maybe I'm the strange one?

On a side note, I really, really want to see a longer series from this author. A bit less cliched and we might have a second Morinaga Milk. But with less high school.

Nezchan, how could you not mention Pieta?

I adore Pieta, it's one of my absolute favourites. But I'm not so sure it's a "simple, heartwarming romance" as the OP requested. Certainly not simple, and in a lot of ways it defies romance too.

Well the OP was asking for great yuri and even though it's neither simple nor heartwarming, it's about as great as it gets.

edit: also if the OP loved Octave they should definitely read Pieta too. We really need more sophisticated Manga, a lot of it just doesn't leave an impression...

The witch of the sea looks rather alluring. Especially compared to the Disney version.

Pretty art but my God, Citrus has a terrible story. She should stick to one shots for now.
