I'm pretty happy with the ending, and it was a great read overall, so thumbs up from this one. Definitely wouldn't have minded it being longer.
Make fun of it if you will Blastaar, but I'm not gonna pretend I won't lap it up every damn time without fail.
I kid because I love. A yuri reader who can’t take adorable dolts is in the wrong business.
I often joke that we don't need a
useless lesbians
tag because we already haveyuri
. So yeah, that just comes with the territory.
This entire exchange is golden, thank you for the laughs.
In any case, I like the way things are going. Really wish this would update more frequently.
I don't think that any of the characters here is really abhorrent by any measure. Shion's a dum-dum, a dum-dum in love, at that, but not malicious, and I don't think she deserves hate as much as she really deserves the consequences of her actions and a decent wake-up call. Mona is a real sweetheart, and I like her a lot both as a character and as what seems to me like an actual potential love interest for Shion, and I'm all up for that.
I'm really looking forward to learning about what troubles Michiru. Part of me thinks that it relates to the specific name mentioned in those comments, but it doesn't seem too likely, probably something along the lines of what was/is bothering Kiki, with what it seems like she should be and not what she actually is.
I see some comments almost immediately switch to the rival camp, and I can't say I don't understand them or even condemn them. I'm still more invested in the Meguru route, personally. But what's even more important than either of these is that I want, I need the waitress as a recurring character, she cannot be shafted like this. She deserves justice, the whole story, and we, her reactions.
A bit more on topic, I didn't actually think Meguru's sister would be mentioned so quickly, and from the bit that was told I'm assuming it really is similar to "My Sister's Best Friend, My Lover" that someone else mentioned and which I cannot believe I forgot about till this moment. I'm still inclined to believe that Meguru, at least partly, feels something toward Hayafuji by merit of her own being, but we'll see if that goes anywhere. Also I do kinda feel bad for Meimi, not gonna lie, but yeah, the game was rigged from the start. I do wonder what role she'll have going forward.

Her potentially acknowledging that her feelings are reciprocal (and I agree it's hard to imagine she's not aware of that on some level)...
I'd definitely like to see Mai's perspective explored first. I feel that would be incredibly amusing in itself, especially if her seductress tendencies only get more pronounced and intentional post-realization, and I think that would also be a way to connect it to Tae realizing what's going on and all.
As for Yuki's role...
That'd definitely be very amusing, but the whole "onee-sama" thing is also the cliche from all the rich-girl school stories and stuff, that very clearly symbolizes intense camaraderie wink-wink-nudge-nudge. It's still something that we're going to see develop. I'm definitely not thinking there'll be a "serious" love triangle here, but if played well it could be immensely amusing.
I actually find it really impressive how this seemingly bizarre and utterly nonsensical comedy has incorporated so many ways for it actually evolve as a story, like, I really do feel that this is a pretty well-written story overall.

...Tae to realize that Yuki's affections for her (respect, replacement mother figure, etc) are fundamentally different from how Mai likes her.
I'm fairly certain that she's aware of it to some degree, but is still stuck in the "is this a crime? am I a criminal? oh no she's hot; I'm going to jail!" phase to actually process anything, but I'd also like a development like that. Honestly, in a way, so long as it happens as organically as things have been developing thus far, I'm all for it.
Though we don't know yet just how Yuki's newfound affection will fully manifest, and this could be a very amusing can of worms in itself and I'm excited to see it opened.
Thinking about it... there is Mai's perspective to explore, it's obvious that she's a girl in love, but she's completely clueless at this point, so maybe if the series explores that first then there's something to work with. Though something tells me that this would be kept as an "escape avenue" if the series gets axed or gets close to ending.
Yes, that's the one. I genuinely love it, it's a great read.
...explore the consequences and implications of an adult dating a grade schooler...
That is one hell of a sentence, lawd almighty. This isn't me taking a dig at you, I'm simply amused. Seriously though, I get what you mean, and I'm not necessarily completely against the idea, but that's a very tall ask. There are a few very icky issues that simply cannot be properly tackled considering the established age gap, the topmost of them would probably be libido. I mean, you could go for a Lolitaesque story, but that's simply not the flavor here.
Which is also another thing, this simply isn't the manga's flavor. It's a lot more of a gag/comedy story using the juxtaposition between the two's status and ages as its engine than it is a serious (or even not really serious) romance story. Mai is anything but a normal grade-schooler, which is the crux of the humor in the series, and kinda fucks with your idea completely from the beginning.
Still, I generally agree that I'd like the two to end up together, and I agree about the "status quo" thing, since it does seem to be happening organically, it'd be much less of an issue if, for instance, the story followed them throughout the years or something like that.
As an aside and about the happenings of this chapter, I'm blanking out on the name right now, but there's another story which is somewhat of a guilty pleasure of mine in which an older women unintentionally seduces three highschoolers thanks to her motherly nature (them girls got mommied is what I'm saying) that this chapter really reminded me of, and I would not necessarily be opposed to similar developments here. Seeing Mai pretty much asserting her dominance was very amusing.
Also as an aside, it's kinda late here and my vision isn't the sharpest as is, so I read "Onee-sama doesn't belong to you" as "Osama doesn't belong to you" and was very confused for a few seconds.

Was that... jealousy? Intriguing... Other than some good fluff, I love how this series does fluff, and how well it's balanced with the pain. Not too sure how to feel about the whole "grimoire" thing, but I feel that there's a lot of room to play with that, and the writing so far has been phenomenal, so I'm looking forward to seeing how it goes. Personally, I hope it somehow and for some reason makes Shiina absurdly OP.
Firstly, that was hot. Like hot hot.
Secondly, I am absolutely fucking loving the way things are unfolding on the Nanao front, and next chapter cannot come soon enough. The panel where she's basically gushing over Asumi's cuteness is amazing, and then the girl discovers a whole new world, just incredible.
What I'm hoping would happen is that somehow Asumi's name is mentioned and Ena goes like "hey I had a girl with that name" or something, and then Nanao would freak out. Either case Nanao's corruption has begun and I am here for it.
Just want to say that what ultimately pushes Nanao to make the reservation is the idea that she might get to have sex with Asumi, naughty girl.
And it is absolutely glorious. Like she isn't even remotely subtle about it, the entire way she's vocally talking to herself about the entire thing
Paradoxically though, doesn't this development actually reduce the likelihood of Nanao and Asumi actually hooking up in the story?
I personally don't think that's necessarily the case, I definitely hope that isn't the case since I want them to hook up so bad. I do find the whole thing amusing though.
Thinking about it, I'm actually impressed at how it's handled here, as in other series this sort of misunderstanding would be getting old very quickly, but because the payoff in this one is consistently good, it can get away with stretching things out like that.

Mei fucking broke Miss Teacher and I was looking forward to seeing the fallout of that, but how things unfolded was great as well. That was quite the expression. I'm hoping all this only serves to turn the new girl further on rather than off.

Ohhhh man Kanon was blushin' like crazy there
But is it a "Oh I'm embarassed to hold hands" kinda thing or a "GAY GAY LESBIAN GAY" type thing
Yes.
More seriously though, I'd say it's a lot more about being embarrassed/hesitant/reluctant about having to rely on her to such a degree than anything else. I don't think she's in the butterflies stage just yet, though I do think that she definitely cares a lot for Saki.
On Saki's end, yeah, girl's way past the point of no return. I hope this goes somewhere. I'll be honest, I have some reservations about payoff in Kuzushiro's works, so I hope this time they go big rather than home.
In any case, about the chapter itself - man, Saki is a gem of a girl. Big fan of how things developed. Not sure about that 'feeling' lil' sis has, though, I thought she caught on to Saki since their first interaction, so what else could she be worried about? Also, her attitude's really growing on me.
No idea if this is the final chapter...
...it says おわり at the bottom which means end, unlike the usual つづくwhich means to be continued, plus its recorded as completed on mangadex. Pain.
Yeah, that's what I've been going on as well, really abrupt if it ends here and like this. Kinda bummed if that's the case, honestly.
About the futaribeya...
Ah, yeah. The kisses I have seen. Also one of the specials had some potentially crucial developments which is neat to see, though I do admit I'm not exactly following it too closely. Thinking about it, I should really go through with a proper read of it myself, only read up to a certain point and then in fragments here and there.
OH WAIT THAT WAS THE END? THERE WAS NO SEGGS?! No no no so many years passed, it's got to be like "a room for two" where they had intense seggs in between chapters, yeah that's what totally happened guys.
Wait what? Is this a thing? When?
Well, there were some intense eggs in ch6...
I do not yet know how to format pictures into comments, so here's a simple chef's kiss.

And about the chapter - wait what? Why? That was absurdly abrupt.
Simply blessed. Looking forward to seeing this unravel.
Also the extra was chef's kiss.

Yes! Let's go! And it was so sweet, too. Really hoping that this continues, I really want to see what comes next for these two sweethearts.
Assuming this isn't shown through Mei's vibrantly tinted goggles, and actually did happen as portrayed, this does make me think that we will see the past flame come back at some point. I mean, if her behavior toward Mei wasn't confusing messages and mixed signals epitomized then I do not know what would be.
I think calling past-flame’s actions “mixed signals” confuses the issue a bit. Sure, those are all yuri-story tropes, but except for the conventions of the yuri genre, they could well have just been the flame being friendly. Yuri goggles aren’t needed for the actions to have happened exactly that way; we just need a gay recipient in order to turn them into a lesbian crush.
Just for clarity's sake, my comment was less about the reader's yuri goggles (tidbit: at first I wrote yugi goggles and the thought amuses me greatly) and more about Mei's goggles - what I meant was that if what was shown in the flashback is seen through Mei's eyes and in how she interpreted the girl's behavior, then it makes sense that Mei didn't know and didn't have a way of knowing to separate friendly and flirty, which is how she is now.
On the other hand, if what was shown in the flashback was the 'objective' way events unfolded, and how the girl actually acted toward Mei, then I definitely think it can be said that the girl was incredibly flirty at the very least, where the "mixed signals" part becomes relevant, and I would say most definitely in love with Mei at least to some degree, which is why it makes me think she might come back.
IOW, we have no idea at this point how one-sided the feelings between Mei and Past Flame may have been. As the very title tells us, Mei’s basic trait is that she’s confused about signals from others and about her own feelings.
Again, for clarity's sake, I agree with this, and so did my original comment on that. I do hope that the story delves a bit deeper into Mei's dynamic with her past flame even if she doesn't come back.
In any case, chapter 9 was all sorts of great. I don't really get why some commenters have a problem with Riri's naivete, in my eyes it just makes her current awakening all the more interesting and amusing, also kinda hot not gonna lie, and it makes a lot of room for her character development. And Karin being an aware and willing "combatant," for lack of a better word, is also great. I'm a fan of proactive love interests, and especially those who aren't shy about physicality.

I mean, if her behavior toward Mei wasn't confusing messages and mixed signals epitomized then I do not know what would be. I don't know that in that scenario she'd be the endgame, and honestly, I wouldn't want it to be the case either way, but I do feel that the setup is there at the very least.
Other than that, I'm dying to know how exactly they got into this (hot) mess. Mei has some "woe is me" energy that amuses me thoroughly. Honestly I'm a bit envious.
Nah, the sixth sense is seeing dead people...
Part of me really wants this twist.
Terrific chapter. I love Ruri, and I'm glad that all four idol-buddies seem to be good people. Also some interesting seeds of progress that I'm looking forward to seeing unfold.
Meanwhile, I don't think Asako is at that point yet. She clearly really cares about Miyako, but it's more of a protective and affection kind of caring, rather than romantic...
Especially considering her motherly nature was a major breakpoint in her previous relationship and something that does still gnaw at her, as seen briefly in chapter 8. It'll take some time for her to bounce back from that and also bridge her motherly affection toward Miyako and any potential romantic affection she might have, which by the way also has its seeds planted thanks to her prime weakness - looks.
I also love the way Ruri and Hatomori bounced off one another and their fully synched reactions, I feel like they'll get along very well, or to put it simply:
Hatomori x Ruri
Yes, please.

honestly, they’re so touchy feely that if this was a comedy oneshot I’d expect the punchline to be Yuzu being like “I thought we were already dating.”
I honestly still feel that this is how it'll go, at least partly.
In any case, the story's adorable, and I'm having fun. Looking forward to what comes next. Also, I definitely agree that it seems like something's up with the friend, but it might also just seem like it. Would be one hell of a twist, though, if Minami and Hinori get together in the end.
"Hmm?" absolutely loved that panel. Hope she connects the dots quickly and gets her good end. Man, the fluff is out of this world. Mashiro and Nagisa are so adorable together, I adore them.

That was a lot of things, but I can't say I'm not entertained. In particular, how Nadeshiko interpreted everything in a sex-related manner amused me greatly. There also seem to be some actual developments, so that's kinda neat. But yeah I'm not gonna pretend like the entire thing is wasn't just the author drawing what they want to, and honestly, that in itself is something I approve of.
A lot of chaos in this chapter, but I'm a big fan of letting all the girls interact with one another. Kaoru's declaration of war was hilarious, especially considering how sweet and soft-spoken the target is, and Minato's day was pretty much maderuined, as she will most probably be unreasonably turned on for the rest of it.
I am really looking forward to the sleepover(?) chapter. I'll be fully honest, I very much hope it goes into NSFW territory with that (let's say Asumi-chan style), but other than that I'm also looking forward to seeing how Karin's schtick unravels, and I expect her to be slightly more out there than the others.
As an aside, part of me really wants to refer to the girls by their theme/schtick, but I'm not sure that it works particularly well, so yeah.
I stand firm by the notion that Meguru is unabashedly horny-on-main. Girl wanted to see some skin, no two ways about it, and some skin was most definitely seen. She's still radiating some sort of seductiveness and allure very strongly, which may or may not be proving rather effective on me.
Hayafuji feeling that she's walking on a tightrope is something I deeply resonate with and I hope that she gets over that sooner rather than later. Shit sucks, really.
I also agree with the comment about Hayafuji's fashion sense. Big fan of the outfit choices. The art style in general is legitimately fantastic throughout.
I am loving Nanao and how she has no idea what is going on. I wonder if she will find out about the service and try it out. I am also assuming she will do a joint deal with Asumi one day.
She's going to assume that Asumi is the prostitute, and try to hire her after several pages of working up the courage to ask. Just you watch.
Yeah, it's pretty clearly being set up this way. I imagine it'll happen in the next 2 or 3 chapters, but maybe even as early as next chapter.
The only thing against this, and it's actually pretty big, is that Nanao knows Asumi is 'losing' money rather than 'gaining' any, so I'd say it'd be much more probable that she's a customer rather than a worker in Nanao's mind. Otherwise, I'm also not against this idea.
I legitimately expected the two would kiss this episode. The romantic/sexual tension between the two is palpable - Michiru was very obviously jealous and it was pretty cute. Love how it all unfolded, ended up being very sweet all around, the little thing with the names in particular.
Dancing is like sex.
I'm taking this comment as a half-joke, but the series has been very deliberate in its subtle parallel of partnership/relationship and dancing/sex. I mean, as subtle as a kick in the groin would be, really, but still. It makes me wonder whether the series would touch on actual romantic relationships and/or sex.
In any case, I feel that this series is flying a bit under the radar, but is consistently entertaining. Looking forward to seeing what comes next.
As an aside, I almost expected Shion to ask her partner for her Millennium item, and the thought still tickles me funny.
This chapter was amazing. Nanao is such a goddamn mess I absolutely adore her. I really hope she gets some payoff in the end, hell not just getting some, some actual payoff wouldn't be bad either. And I'm not exactly sure why but the lewds were really hot this chapter. Like really. Good lord.
Okay hear me out: imagine Nao discovers the brothel service Asumi is using, and she decides to try it out to see why Asumi likes it so much, and then boom, her first sex worker is Mai.
Cue sexual hijinks and set up for a thruple end game
Yes.
at that point she'd be the brothel's #1 vip customer...
Not exactly related but reminded me that I've seen several ideas where Asumi joins and/or somehow takes over the entire thing and/or scores herself a harem of beauties that swoon over her and I'm not entirely against these ideas.
As one last aside on that topic, thanks for the replies to my questions about supporting authors and such from before. Sadly it seems that Amazon.jp doesn't ship here, and I try to avoid digital stuff precisely because it's not physical, so I'll just make do with what's available. Getting me the licensed copies was part of the plan all along anyway.
