I have the feeling that half the reason she does it at this point is for the reaction, so it's not as fun when she's alone.

It's kind of an easy mistake to make, and while I normally catch it, it occasionally slips through.

Well now, we all have our own interpretations of the true, deeper meaning of this manga. But in the end, there's one thing I'm sure we can all agree on. The rock, if you will, that remains constant through any analysis.

That's kind of the point, juxtaposing a lighthearted irreverence with really dark and serious stuff, creating existential dark humor that satirizes the absurdities its world.

Sort of like Brazil, but set in a fantasy RPG instead of a corporate distopia. And hopefully a nicer ending.

It often amuses me seeing people trying to guess what will happen based on chapter titles, because they're often completely wrong.

I meant as far as the intent of the joke.

I highly doubt it was meant to be deep enough to foreshadow a plot point that large.

Pretty sure it's just a joke about how Aki wouldn't be able to ask Wasabi to be her friend once they finish because she'll be dead.

Tomekichi posted on twitter a few weeks back about how the change of taste in foods while swapped reminds her of when she was pregnant and would suddenly getting a huge craving for something she normally didn't like. And how she imagines it working in a similar fashion.

Has the original best friend made any appearances? Has the overarching plot of making up with her been abandoned?

It's still ongoing, or at least there hasn't been any strong indication that it's been abandoned.

We last saw Bocchi's friend in the karaoke chapter, IIRC.

The karaoke chapter from way back in volume 1? She's made at least 2 other appearances since then.

There was even an entire chapter dedicated to their past together.

I know about the study series but what's the other ongoing one?

I'm actually not sure. I remember seeing one when I picked up an issue of a magazine I don't normally read, but since it's not one I normally read I can't remember much about it.

I'll try and look into it and see if I can figure it out later.

Edit: It is possible that I may have been confusing "Muku" and "Nukku" in my memory because their names are really similar. I've also done this with Katsuwo and Kazuho.

You say that like it's the only one, but he has like two other ongoing series as well.

And while this one in particular starts out really gay but very gradually starts to move toward "let's be friends", the others are kind of the reverse. Start out normal and gradually get more and more gay.

There was never more to that arc in the manga.

Though I can't say if they'll decide to put in some anime original content. They HAVE been doing some odd things. Like airing a particular episode several days before the manga chapter it was based on got published. When they still had plenty of other chapters to choose from.

Probably there was no official romanization when this started getting translated and the translators thought the name was meant to be German.

I'm not so sure. Despite her love of breasts (and kissing), Haruko is actually really innocent about that stuff.

I think the author has gotten gayer over time in general, as their two more recent series have both gone on to explicitly state "this girl is in love with this girl."
