Love Live's canon is a mess, I think they are slowly getting better with it though... but the early stuff in particular can be all over the place. im@s was the same early on, apparently.

Today is a good day! Event EX, finally - although it's awfully easy... - and I finally S cleared BokuKimi after playing nothing but it for the past few days.

^ I pretty much explicitly said that I wasn't talking about doujinshi; of course no doujinka is going to be reading this. I was speaking in a general sense with that comment.

Also, I pretty strongly disagree with some of your arguments there, too. Just because it's "culturally acceptable" to have these sorts of aspects in media from that country doesn't mean it is thus immune to criticism. It's important to be aware of the cultural context in which these things are created (and trust me, I am), but that doesn't change the fact that I think all of the "purity" stuff and associated "expectations" of women are complete and utter bullshit.

I hate the way that idols like the AKB girls are expected to not date anyone almost entirely because of their fanbase wanting them to be "pure" and "untouched". I hated the "used goods" drama that happened when it came out that Nagi from Kannagi was not a virgin. And no amount of "Well, but that's their culture!" can justify that in my eyes.

I don't agree with futa = trans either, but the way that was worded sounded pretty freaking transphobic to me. shrug Could just be me, though.

Incidentally, some of the transwomen that I know really like futa because it actually does reflect them in some ways - that it's OK to be a girl and also have a penis, y'know? But that's pretty anecdotal (n = 2), so take from that what you will.

Second point still stands though. :P

Futa is a plague upon yuri fandom. Shame on all of you enablers.

And here I thought shitty and cliched melodrama was the plague of yuri (or any romance genre)... But futa is the plague?

At least shit yuri is still yuri.

There's nothing wrong with dick if it's on a girl^^

There's nothing wrong with any weird fetish but if you support futa as a yuri fan you're contributing to your own demise.

Oh boy, the transphobia is real.

I'm not sure why you think it's a zero-sum game, either.

Do we really need this discussion? Are most yuri doujin with a bit of "force" (i would not even call it that) going to be called rapey?

Sure, why not? What's wrong with talking about this? I think if there are multiple people who have some kind of negative reaction to the way Rin and Hanayo are acting in this doujinshi it's well worth thinking about.

I'll repeat: Discussing problematic elements is not a judgment call on the media itself nor the people who consume it. It's about awareness and, although less so with this particular work as we can hardly influence the Japanese scene, hopefully about improving the general quality of media as a whole.

You know what RinPana doujin is awesome? Dandelion Reversi. There is so much enthusiastic consent-seeking in that work. Hanayo is obviously rather unsure about doing it there, but she nevertheless consents willingly rather than it being guilt-induced.

"If by any chance... you don't like what I'm about to do, be sure to tell me, okay? Even if it's while I'm doing it." This is like the absolute best thing I've read in ero yuri doujinshi. And it's the polar opposite of what happens in Kiss Kiss Miracle.

^ Agreed with what Gale said. I'm not trying to say this doujinshi is awful and it should be banned or something stupid like that, just that it's always a good idea to think critically about the media you consume and what it might be saying about how society and you yourself act! ... Even stories about cute lesbian idols. :P

These doujins get more and more rapey. Even when they are in a relationship, pressuring your partner into doing lewd things just sit right with me. I love yuri because I wouldn't expect from women the kind of behavior I hate about men. And especially from Rin, who canonically (or maybe it's just in my head) pushes Hanayo to fulfill for her dreams, test her limits, but never make her do something she is uncomfortable with for her (Rin's) own gain.

Reading this post, I was compelled to read it over again: to see your view point. Yes I completely agree that Yuri has an aspect most het don't. However in Japan saying " Dame Dame, Iya, Yamate, ect." is desirable because in the culture, when a girl says " Moto Moto, Ii yo, ect" they are passed off as a sult of sorts. This may be weird to some, and kinda seems rapey, but the cliche phrase must be used: No means Yes.

To some extent this is true, but it doesn't change the fact that it's kinda rapey.

This one in particular. First Hanayo keeps flat out saying that she doesn't want to, and then she tells Rin that she's not going to stop... No, that's a little different to the prototypical hentai "d-dameee" which is less "stop" and more "Oh, no! If you keep doing that I'm going to come...!"

Very few doujins are set in the Mangaverse or relate to it much at all, so I'd say the anime.

Is this really the story of love live ? I'm too busy to watch the anime -.-

There are effectively four separate "universes" for Love Live: the anime, the manga, the School Idol Diaries, and School Idol Festival. All the characters are the same in each, and many details are largely the same, but there are some significant differences... primarily because you're talking different authors and the like.

For example, in the manga, Eli knew Honoka, Umi and Kotori as children - and there's also a yuri goggles-level love triangle going on with Eli and Umi and Honoka (and I think possibly Nozomi as well). Nico and Maki become friends early on as they seek to scout out potential school idols.

Meanwhile, in the anime, Eli and Nozomi met up in their 1st year and are best friends (/girlfriends, depending on your goggles level) but didn't know the others (except Nico) until Honoka was trying to make an idol group, Eli resisted joining μ’s, etc. And NicoMaki are quite different to their manga equivalents in personality.

SIF and the SIDs tend to be very close or the same (particularly as of late) but there can be some differences between the diaries and the other media. For example, in Nico's SID she only has two siblings - Cocoro and Cocoa, her little sisters. But in the anime and in SIF she also has a little brother, Cotarou.

So... Yeah. Love Live is flexible. :P

Okay, yeah, like I thought... that says
ほんまにせんでも良かったのに, not ほくまに
which in standard Japanese is
本当にしなくても良かったのに
and means something around
"You really didn't have to do that"

So wait, there's another one out there of the LL girls as adults? That'd be awesome to see, I love reading about adult versions of characters.

Oshima Tomo drew (part of) Crystal Sugar and Machine Gun, which is about NicoMaki as adults. Apart from that... Um, those Inuzuka Bowl HonoMaki ones are of them as adults... and... I'm not sure if there are many (any?) others translated.

It would be nice to see more, for sure!

tomo homo used to draw het porn under the Nikaidou name. One of which is on sadpanda and it cracks me up so bad

It's just like looking at Morinaga Milk's old het releases. Eh, you do what you gotta do to pay the bills, but damn if it isn't funny...

Oshima Tomo, of NicoMaki fame (or infamy), used to use the name (or is actually named?) Mitsuki Nikaidou. She also used the pen name Narusawa Meguru.

Nikaidou Mitsuki's credited with being Oshima Towa's "partner" (相方... read into that what you will) and helping her a lot with her manga - not exactly an "assistant" in the regular sense because she seemed to do a lot more than an assistant would. You can definitely see the art style similarity, particularly if you look at Tomo's earlier solo releases, probably because she's had to draw like Towa for a long time!

Sweet Pea is Tomo's circle, and Cocoa Break is Towa's circle. They used to do some releases together, to the extent that they share an artist category on Tora no Ana, but nowadays they make a distinction between the two. Possibly because Tomo apparently likes to draw a tonne of lesbian porn and Towa doesn't seem to. XD

They live together! You can see the photos of their cats on their Twitter. Tomo's kitty, Potechi, is the cutest. And I've read some blog articles in Japanese where people HAVE confirmed that they are two different people, having seen them both in person together.

... I swear to god I didn't go and stalk them for a few hours one day... I mean... Why... Would ... I have done that...

I wonder if I'm like the only one who genuinely loves Honoka's character.

Honkers is love, Honkers is life.

I love all the girls. :( I don't know how you could hate any of them.

Part 2 exists, right? I don't mind waiting but it does exist, yes??

There's a reason why I added "Stay tuned for part 2!" on the last page. :)

b.) Is this a second author by the same name, or is there just some issue with linking it up with http://dynasty-scans.com/authors/kuromame ?

Second author with the same name. They're unrelated to the other Kuromame.
