I used to write translations of his stuff, both long series and oneshots, and post them in the VGAI mailing list (which was actually more of a generic Katsura ML, not just about VGAI). This happened at a time when scanlation wasn't a thing and the only way for a non-Japanese-fluent person to read and understand Japanese manga was to download the raw scans and read them with a printed copy of the English translation in hand. I worked my ass off at those translations... O tempora, o mores...

It's good that people have different interpretations of the ambiguities in his manga. That's how he, Katsura himself, always liked it. ^.~

Um, well, that "gurl" is obviously the daughter of the black-haired sensei who appeared before. That sensei seems to be an old pal of Asuka's mom, and thus it's only normal that Asuka and the "gurl" -- her name's Miyuki btw -- are childhood friends.

We have seen before, in a flashback, that Miyuki seduced Asuka some time ago. Miyuki, who is a couple of years older, introduced young Asuka to the pleasures of lesbian sex, teaching her how to kiss and lotsa other stuff. In the present, when Asuka kissed her mom, she was very surprised at Asuka's kissing skill, and wondered if Asuka had learned to do it watching porn in the Internet... to which Asuka replied that it got nothing to do with porn, that she had some real life practice (this answer made her mom terribly worried, haha). Of course, she was talking about her "practice" with Miyuki.

Miyuki's reappearance in Asuka's life may be the prelude of an attempt to rekindle that sexy relationship they used to have. Then again, maybe not. Too early to tell. We shall see.

However, I can’t think of any other example of a story where Person A sincerely is deeply in love with Person B but will remain in the relationship only as long as Person B does not ever reciprocate.

I can think of one. A oneshot story by Masakazu Katsura. The title was "M" (I think) and it was about a couple of masochists and the weird-ass games they played. The leading lady made a point that the more she was desired, the more she was loved, the bigger the turnoff. So, yeah, they could be together and everything... as long as the other one remained aloof and indifferent to her.

Honestly, the whole situation reminds me of that old Groucho Marx joke: “I refuse to belong to a club that will accept someone like me as a member!” Touko's version of this absurd statement would be: “I refuse to be in a relationship with someone who will stoop so low as to love somebody as hateful as me!”

Just watched Zombieland. That was one BRUTAL DISS of the Death Metal scene! I'm guessing the creators of the anime have a very poor opinion of the genre.

Death Metal fans are depicted as a bunch of cretins who can't tell a musical performance by a real band from the random antics of a group of mindless zombies -- and by random antics I mean grotesque screaming, spastic shaking, vandalizing the venue and biting the audience. They loved it! In fact, everyone thought it was, like, best concert ever.

That was some vicious disrespect...

(Not that I'm complaining, mind you. Actually, I give the authors two thumbs up for a job well done. They sure understand Death Metal. ^_~ )

But I think I favor "Your master's here! Where's my doggy?" more than "Your husband is here! Where's that mutt?" The first translation has better continuity because the 2d sentence continues the master/pet joke from the 1st sentence, while the other one jumps from Minami being a wife in the 1st sentence to her being a kept animal in the 2d sentence. Not so good.

(Also "my doggy" is cuter than "that mutt".)

Chapter 1 had that scene where characters were approaching the Student Council offices...

... and, of course, all savvy readers immediately expected to see a typical manga seitokai full of ultra-nice people who spend all of their free time working their asses off for the good of the student body...

... and instead we got to see four students get kicked out of the council room (literally, not metaphorically: the kick is so hard, they go flying out of the door) while Tsubaki yells: "And don't ever return, you losers, or yer gonna make me REALLY angry!"

It may be just me, but it's one of the funniest moments I've ever seen in a high school manga. ^_^

Guys, they’re both Japanese. One is just really tan from being outside all the time and the artist may get lazy and not draw the tan lines, but from their names it seems quite obvious it is not interracial.

It isn't necessarily just a sun tan - some Japanese, for example if you are from Okinawa, have darker skin tone.
Interracial wouldn't still be an accurate term really, tho, if both are fully Japanese.

It's plain and obvious they are both Japanese. Darker skin is an established manga cliché for people from the southern islands -- and nobody cares whether it's natural born skin tone or the result of tanning.

I too love the darker skin look on anime girls, even if it is just a tan - it's not done that often.
