It really reminds me of author of Shaman King and Attack on Titan.

Shaman King got cancelled like 20 chapters or so before it was finished. So instead of giving it some weird ending, he just left it on cliffhanger and give a very weird hint in form of mandarin, which supposedly had meaning of "to be continued". So people was making theories until it turned out after 2-4 years or so author found other magazine that let him finish his manga. And man it was worth it (the ending is awesome).

Author of Attack on Titan originally pitched his idea to Shounen Jump but was rejected. They told him the art style was too repelling and story was too gruesome so they told him to change his art and make it more friendly and well, shounen like. So he said thank you and looked for different published unless one agreed to publish his manga in his original idea. And who would guessed it. It become a hit in Japan.

It really show the flaw in manga industry. How formulaic and focused on profit most of magazines are. Like movies, most people don't care to tell a good story first nowadays. The first concern is, if it will sell.

That is why being mangaka in japan is actually far from ideal. It is all about money, so unless you find someone willing to publish you on your terms, you can forgot about artist integrity. As long as it sells it will be dragged on regardless of your plans, but if it doesn't sell then it will get axed even if it would end on bad note.

Yea, you could argue they don't change gender but still change sex, but there were already people here saying that there is no difference between gender and sex since what sex you are isn't depended on your organs so... I'm not going into that again.

To be fair, I have no experiences with cheating as well and I didn't really read many manga that have it. And I do hate the idea itself. I guess it is more that I read a lot of manga, especially shoujo one, where contrived situation and drama for the sake of drama is common place and main way to prolong the story and keep reader's interest in reading making them wonder what will happened next. So I guess I just saw (potential) cheating in this case more as a story-teller device. Though as I said before, I do believe it will rather turn out to be (really stupid) misunderstanding.

Fun stuff to explore, and I feel less alone now. Sometimes it feels like it's mainly men reading yuri. Thank you both for indulging me.

Just curious. I was baptized as a catholic, because my parents wanted to please the grandparents. But I never went to church as a kid, or even now.

The way I understand it is that you were raised in catholic family, but you don't have to necessary believe. You might have believed at first, but then you lost faith or something. In my case I was properly going to church etc. until in my later teens I realized the religion is bs and stopped believing. OP might have something different in mind though.

You are not trying to distract yourself from thought of dying one day though. You life is shit. You are useless. You can't do anything. You are worthless. You have no friends. You have no life. You are depressed as fuck. Just trying to think about all the crap that went wrong in your life and how to fix it for even few minutes will make you fail into downright spiral of getting more and more depressed and demotivated and most likely just end up deciding it is easier to commit suicide. You wouldn't even know where to start to fix your life anyway. So you choose to avoid thinking about it, because thinking only get you more depressed. So you find mindless things, that don't require effort to distract yourself and give you instant gratification and temporary happiness. It might even improve your mood for few hours! So yea, it's like few people pointed out here. You don't become NEET because you want to have it easy. You usually become NEET because you had some (or a lot of it) bad experience that made your life go wrong way and you hit the point where you can't bounce out so you just try to keep it together enough to not totally fail apart. It's definitely not happy, easy going existence. It is actually really shallow and leads nowhere. You use your entire energy to just keep on living.
