I like this because of its absurdity, but I honestly can't predict where this will go either, other than the standard manga status-quo-maintained non-ending. It's to the point of feeling like deliberate teasing without any intention of delivery to prolong the time until cancellation.

I don't think anyone appreciates their ideas being called "dumb," especially when it's harmless speculation on a fictional story. If people can't be civil here, I don't think I want to engage in discussions on this site. I've already seen this sort of thing devolve into personal attacks that resulted in one person being temporarily banned and another warned.

You can have all the reasoning in the world to support your point of view, but it will all fall on deaf ears if you present it in a combative, condescending way.

From the few threads of manga I'm personally interested in, there seems to be a problem on this site with general civility and respect of other people's opinions. I don't think this requires a new rule, but an addendum to rule 1 concerning these things would be appreciated.

Forgive me if nobody in my daily life has felt the need to tell people they'll spontaneously shit themselves should a certain event happen. And for further clarification, "the dictionary" meant Urban Dictionary, not an actual dictionary.

I guess the only point I'm really hung up on is where did she pick up these things? She very clearly has a strict mother - one whom I suspect doesn't allow her to spend her time unsupervised watching TV dramas or internet lurking, where such behavior is abundant. I think I just want the author to have some sort of comedic reveal (or even an explanation) about the whole thing because I don't want this child to be acting in an erotically flirtatious manner completely naturally. I'm on-board for full-blown degeneracy, but if it can be avoided, I'd at least feel better about my enjoyment of this. I want this to end up being a single serving of Girl Scout Thin Mint cookies instead of an entire package of Double Stuf Oreos. Both are enjoyable and bad for me, but one leaves me feeling so much worse.

But unless a theory is grounded in something in the text, it is, at best, not very helpful in positing answers to the story’s questions.

My personal theory is purely based on the fact that nobody else in the story besides the main character (to my knowledge) has ever reacted specifically to her facial expressions. That strikes me as odd, especially with how very adult those expressions are, causing me to wonder if the author might be doing it on purpose for a hilarious reveal later on. If there is a definitive example of other people seeing these same expressions, either already existing or to come, I'd have no problem abandoning the idea.

Thank you for the clarification, and I'd like to re-iterate that I do not think she's an adult. The way she talks and acts the vast majority of the time is that of a child. I also don't have a problem with age gaps in fictional stories, regardless of the legality were those involved to be real people. I just find it rather jarring that this eleven-year-old is giving what another person in these comments referred to as "schlafzimmerblick." I couldn't agree with this description more, and my imagination immediately went to why she could be doing this. Could it be a "deal with it" situation the author has created simply for the fun of it? Sure. It wouldn't be satisfying to me as an explanation, but you can't argue with word of god. Lacking that word, I thought to myself, "what is a rational explanation for this?" - and came up with my theory. Is it likely that it's wrong? Absolutely. It's just a guess on my part.

Serenata suggested that other characters have reacted to her expressions before, but I went back through and couldn't find an instance where it was clear that was what they were reacting to in particular. If anyone has a link to a page in the story where this is cleared up, please feel free to share it.

Why so many people keep posting theories, made of pure unbased speculation, about Mai being an adult against all evidence? Is it that difficult to read the story as it is?

I'm not actually suggesting she's really an adult, but the looks she gives are frightening given the context. The height and the body I can rationalize away, but children don't give looks like that. My personal theory about that particular part is that she's not actually doing it at all. What we're seeing is Tae's misinterpretation or distorted perception based on their height gap and the lighting.

Just looked it up on "the dictionary" (which I honestly should have done before) and I was genuinely not aware this was a phrase people used.

I think many people are familiar with someone in real life of whom Kaoru reminds them. Those that make no effort to improve are often rewarded for it, which is understandably infuriating. I'm personally very interested in seeing her growth as a person, because everyone deserves that chance.

Being terrible to people who you feel are being terrible is never a solution. And lamenting civility immediately after a literal wall of condescension and hostility is disingenuous to put it charitably.
