chapter 15 page 83 could have Pandilleros, (a song by Dinamita pa los pollos, if you know Spanish 1980's music) as its BGM
"Nos vemos en el infierno / "Let's meet back in Hell
Un buen lugar para perdernos / A good place to get ourselves lost
El mejor sitio para reparar motores / The best place to repair our engines
Y curar las heridas como buenos perdedores" / and heal our wounds like good losers"

They are lucky to be in the times of smartphones and instat messaging. Back in the day, moving meant instant definitive separation. Nowadays they can keep in touch. So yes, a cute ending instead of a heartwrenching one.

That moment when you can detect your girlfriend by smell. I guess that's a special power...or she just stinks lmao

Or smell really good. Y'know.
More realistically, it could be her shampoo, or perfume (though i don't think Japanese put on perfume if there's not a special occasion).
Of course, I'm sure the joke was just that she knows her girlfriend so well she can pick up something as imperceptible. So, definitely special power.

Indeed, I was able to detect my first GF by smell.
To be fair, she was one of those people who exude an order of magnitude more pheromones than the usual for an human being, so it was no big feat.

Are really Japanese universities a highschool 2.0, or is just the mangaka being waaay more familiar with highschool tropes?

Is Asian (...) culture like this? (...) the inability to say no?

Basically, yes. In both Japanese and Chinese culture, there is a STRONG cultural bias towards shaming the one who says "no" as "arrogant" or "rude".

The good thing of this being an one-shot is that if we say that their story continues with they having enough masks for Speranza (which if you dodn't notice is an transliteration of esperanza, "hope" in Spanish) to reah the facility, finding the last surviving scientists to fix the weather satellite, actually doing so, repairing Liberta, returning, restoring Mama's energy, and then living in a bucolic no-longer-postapocaliptic world together... we have no depressing cnon continuation to say otherwise.
So there.

YMMV. Personally, I find that kind of humor about as enjoyable as traditional "gays as targets" jokes. You know, the jokes about exactly what does need a lesbian to stop being so; Ive heard far too many descriptions of that supposedly treated as "humor" or "comedy" or "entertaining". So by all means, feel free to treat depictions of relationship abuse as "cute", too.
TL;DR: Some things are NOT a joke. Don't try to pass them as such.
(BTW, Aristotle thinking something to be wrong is in fact a great indication in favor of said thing being actually right. Don't get me started on that line) ;-)

Aww.. It wouldn't have been morally questionable to do it wearing her uniform..right?

I see quite more morally questionable the control freak red flags that Natsuko is throwing around. I mean, "don't get a job, I will provide all your money", "don't wear cute/sexy/nice clothes in public that others may see them", and the like, are treated here as "cute" but are actually BIG RED FLAGS

You made it even more confusing

If a panel-by-panel explanation of which girl is talking to which girl that shows there is NO instance of twist ghost girl being refered to as a ghost before the twist is confuse to you, then yeah, maybe you should stick with simpler dialogues

Pretty low tier twist, especially since the ghost girl refers to the other girl as a ghost,

I just reread the thing panel by panel, and found no place where Obvious Ghost Girl (OGG from now on) calls Twist Ghost Girl (TGG) a ghost in an obvious manner.

  • The obviously adressed ghostly mentions are page 2 panel 3 (TGG to OGG) and panel 4 (TGG talking to OGG) and page 3 panels 3 and 5 (TGG talking to OGG)
  • The "talking about ghostly things not letting clear whom it is adressed to" is page 2 panel 4, to page 3 panel 1 (OGG seemingly talking about herself),
  • The parts where "ghostly things are mentioned but it is deliberately unclear whose girl's inner monologue we're reading" (setting up the twist) are page 4 panels 3 to 5 (seemingly TGG thinking of OGG, really might be either GG); and page 5 panels 4 and 5 (seemingly OGG thinking of TGG's direct question on panel 3, really TGG pondering her own words)
  • The ONLY obvious mention of TGG being a ghost comes in page 6, the twist, and it's TGG herself who says so.

TL;DR: Nope, that was just you misreading a (deliberately confusing) dialogue. Because deliberately confusing, that's why.

I see no cheating. I see a subversion of expectations. You have two girls talking, one of which adress the other as "ghost". (Expectation: the addressing girl is human). They talk about making too many attachments; ghost girl says it makes more difficult to pass on (expectation: she is talking about herself). After more talking and the realization that the ghost girl has friendzoned the beejebus outta the other girl, that girl passes on (realization: both expectations were subverted; BOTH girls are ghosts, and ghost girl was talking about the other girl passing on - which she is now free to do). Ending, we see ghost girl telling her "scary ghost tale" to a human girl (we think) who does not realize (also, we think) she is talking to an actual ghost.

Didn't knew of that one. Dropped it, hard, at the first strip, but thanks anyway for the info of its existence, this is VERY clearly a reference to it that now I get.
