The character they killed off (Haruka) is a new character. She didn't exist in the original one-shot. The childhood friend in the original was Youko, which is the other main character in this new series. Basically, what they changed is that Youko went from being a childhood friend to being a senpai. But Youko and Yorino still end up as partners just like in the one-shot, so the end result didn't change.

I get what you're saying, but from a relational point of view it is actually Youko that is the new character. That might have been the name of the other lead in the original, but if you look at personality, history, and relationship to Yorino it is Haruka that was established in the original. So even though we have a Youko/Yorino partnership in both the dynamic is not the same as we go from childhood friends who built up a rivalry over years of being together to a senpai/kouhai team who barely know each other aside from one saving the other.

I'm not gonna complain about the change now as it could be to the story's benefit in this series format, but it was still quite jarring to see scenes from the original recreated only for the result to be such a major departure. I didn't love chapter 1, but I sincerely hope this turns out to be a story we can all enjoy in the long run.

Kinda sad Ogino changed it in that way, but after all it's still Ogino Jun in action. I look forward to next chapters!

Yeah, I don't like that change either. The original is still my preference for now, but perhaps this set-up will work better for an ongoing series, so I'll keep up with it and hope it stays interesting.

Yep, exactly. I wonder if introducing new characters, instead of using old ones would work better? Maybe Ogino wanted to use original setting as base and build something new on top of that?
Since Gamma is one of my all time favorites here, I'll just wait for more story :)

I feel like I'd enjoy this new beginning more if it had been done with completely different characters and then it would also have the added bonus of being able to show the original leads sometime down the line, even if just as cameos. This also reminded me that I still need to read Gamma.

We've got ourselves a series! And the first chapter is...kinda rough, unfortunately. But I'm looking forward to some more action yuri!

Oh hey, I just read the story this series is based on a few months ago. I'm glad it's gonna be a full series now. Action yuri stories are not nearly common enough and this one in particular struck a chord with me. Looking forward to more!

Much more enjoyable than the first part. I love the little hints about how their relationship works now and how they both seem to be getting something out of it. Tougou still says Sayama is "the worst," but now it comes off more playful, as opposed to the first part where I am inclined to agree in earnest. Blackmailing people into having sex IS the worst. Glad to see that element completely removed from this, even if it does feel a little revisionist. Are we supposed to believe Tougou has no qualms with the events from part 1 now?

Cute, but way too short. Oh well, at least it was enjoyable enough.

Kinda hard to tell, but it looks like the main bully is also the one erasing the board at the school, so it's very possible that she genuinely had a thing for her teacher (backed up by her Internet search for Sakamaki's pseudonym) but just didn't know a healthy way to try to make a relationship out of it. This would also imply that she accepts that Sakamaki and Honda are together and she won't try to get between them. I definitely see where others are coming from when they say that she has likely been through some awful stuff herself, so hopefully her friends are good to her and she can get better. This piece had a surprising amount of depth to it for what it is.

Oof! It would be kinda strange at this point for Yukiko to suddenly dump Konomi for Fuwa, so I doubt that'll happen and there also haven't been any clear signs that this story will go in a poly direction, so it would seem there is some heatbreak on the horizon. I kinda miss this series not having drama surrounding it, so I guess whatever happens I hope it happens soon.

Man, this one was a trip. This serves as a good reminder that you should ask someone if something is wrong when it looks like there is and listen to what they have to say. Rika gave clear signs that Sachi responded to and probably without knowing it managed to talk her down. Sachi on the other hand...well, let's just be glad that Rika was so curious about other Rika.

So glad we're getting so much of this series. I can always use more "happy relationship" yuri, especially with adult characters. These two are just so adorable!

I'm not getting the same creepy vibe everyone else is, more just quirky. Then again, I've definitely read some far more extreme stories, so maybe my scale is a bit skewed. Regardless, this was cute. Woulda been nice if it were a bit longer though.

Very cute. I loved seeing Alice's reaction to getting a purse. It was incredibly wholesome.

I'm curious to see how things are handled going forward. Akira does not seem open to polyamory at this point and that is a major hurdle. I really hope the story explores her change in attitude well enough to make it a believable change. I would hate to see her just "magically" be alright with it suddenly in a later chapter.

The plot thickens...or so I hope. I've been enjoying the series, but it would be nice to see more happen and chapter 5 seems to be teasing at least a couple things to look forward to.

This had better be the beginning of a multi-work series! I love couples like this one and I can never get enough.

I'm digging this series so far, but you can see the drama on the horizon after this one. Tsubaki in a relationship with a teacher would be bad enough, but that teacher seemed to be insinuating that Tsubaki actually has a thing for Nekozaki. I won't pretend to know where this is going, but I really hope it doesn't lead to Tsubaki getting hurt.

Also, I'd love to get more of Pengin and Shishimaru. They seem like a fun couple.

I absolutely adore this couple and, even though the story was short, it felt so complete. Their feelings and dialogue were realistic enough for me to think this scene has actually ocurred at some point in real life. Definitely my favorite from this anthology.

I could sense things getting worse when the story didn't end at what seemed like the most hopeful moment, so I came to the comments before finishing and, sure enough, it got pretty bad. So if somebody else has a moment like I did just know that if it seems like a good stopping point to you then you might want to consider just stopping.

This was a strange one, but overall I enjoyed the ride. Not gonna chime in on the moral debate or anything like that. I was actually super confused about the love triangle part until almost the end. The whole time I kept wondering how Yukiko, who seemed to be rooting for her friend to succeed at winning over her mother, was actually romantically tied to her. It did come up pretty close to the end and honestly that felt like the weakest part of the story to me. It was nice that she went back to being supportive after clearing up her own feelings, but I would have enjoyed it more without the love triangle at all.

Very cute and relatable story. Not sure why saying what you want is so difficult for some, but it definitely is and "showing" instead seems like a good work around (although probably not for everyone). Also, I'm not sure if it's really reversal when the one getting reversed on asks for it, but whatever.

Lol, so now the OTHER neighbors are gonna be after Nakano? Poor girl!

But seriously, I like the idea of introducing someone's ex and having her be so confrontational about everything while nobody else seems to care. And more personality types are always welcome in a comedy manga.

Lol, I kinda hope she made the kouhai pay for the room, at least. I mean, that definitely was sexual harassment.

I'm not sure if Koike left between pages or something, but his absense from the rest of the scene kinda made it seem like he was never there at all. Just what is up with the mood in this series? Everything is all over the place.
