Vankomycin posted:

Nobody (not even the author) gets to say "THIS is what this work means, and all other interpretations are wrong." (Most days I'm a firm believer in the death of the author.

I believe you should be careful with this statement. While I do agree that anyone can interpret a work differently, and those interpretations wouldn't be necessarily wrong, there are some people who can thoroughly misread a work; and in that case, the author- rather than should, has to enlighten them.

Contextualizing a bit, and following your aforementioned statement, it's like saying nazi's interpretations of Nietzsche weren't wrong, and that the latter [if he had been alive] shouldn't have said anything. I'm exaggerating purposely, but you got my point.

Re-reading this, I got to admit : as much as I hate this story, it's really well executed and done, whether it's the use of the ostracized blonde-haired girl, the way the main character is drawn at and is falling in love with or the unexpected, brutal yet realistic ending.
I hate this and I love this at the same time. Such an ineffable feeling only a very few works gave me. It's painful, but I have to add it to my favorite list.

As Sigmund Freud once (allegedly) said, "Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar."

Freud, not allegedly this time, also said that we all want to kill our father and have sex with our mother. [The opposite for girls].
Not sure if we should blindly follow what he said ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Momono Moto disappointed this time

I think that's a bit unfair., unless you thinks she was trying to write some sort of fluffy romance. She set out to write something more bitter than sweet, maybe a bit controversial. I can understand that urge, even though I prefer fluffy romances myself. In any case, I think it's more like "Momomo Moto didn't give me something that feels good" and I'd totally agree with that.

I doubt that Mai is supposed to be a sympathetic character at all. We're meant to distrust and dislike her, but hold onto that slim hope that maybe, just maybe, Ecchan won't be hurt this time. But she probably will anyway.

I'd agree with oghuzan here. Momono Moto is quite familiar with player and sometimes-manipulative characters, but the light-haired was one-dimensional, it was the very archetype of the garbage player, and with all the cliche things that go along with, like the sudden marriage [which made me laugh actually], her coming back like it's nothing ect..

I wouldn't say I was disappointed because her art is really stunning, but I easily can understand people who were; and objectively, we can all agree that this story was under her other works- if not in terms of quality, at least inferior to what Momono Moto-sensei in capable of.

Bitter bitter bitter bitter bitter .. BITTER !
Momono Moto sensei, I'm usually a huge fan of her work but I really couldn't bear the light-haired character.
Definitely player, bisexual het and/or marriage here.

As a french, who loves and read manga on top of that, I can tell that mangas are fairly popular here, especially among the "young" ones (let's say those under 40 years). That goes for the most popular mangas though, those who really are fond of manga and japanese culture, the "otaku" [you'd call them weebs] are kind of despised and ostracised from the rest of the community. I'm exaggerating and generalizing, but I myself witnessed that several times.

On a more amusing note, there's also a small amount of french manga; and I'm gonna promote my all time favorite, but I'm particularily proud that we have Dreamland ! And I'm actually surprised that there are some chapters translated and hosted on mangafox.

Unhealthy, dumb, unrealistic. But having more amanagi seiji stuff is a good thing, her art really improved.

I'm stomping on LoL actually :P Hence my current avi !

I knew Your avi was from some sort of mmo!
I'm considering getting LoL myself, It looks like tons of fun. But I hear LoL has the worst fanbase in gaming history :/.

The community is basically full of brainless, mentally retarded/ill, toxic, troll and unskilled players. Which means if you play solo, you very often- if not always, have to /mute all at the beginning.

That said, the same game with your friends is hella fun ! If you download it, go on the EUW Server.

wonder if anyone finds it weird that I am talking about life while everyone else is talking about anime and stuff. O__O

No, it's the place for it. And it's IMHO more interesting than anime and stuff ;)

And if we could include het pairing from a manga, I'd go for protagonist x the girl in bridesmaid

That pairing doesn't even come close to Yuma & Takeda from Netsuzou Trap. Yuma even has a kind friend to mess around with to prepare her for her amazing het relationship with Takeda.

We said het pairing, which means you need at least 1 man and 1 woman.
Shit is genderless.
Your argument is invalid.

Hey guys, a different question to you.

What are your fav. het pairing from all anime?

Hard to pick up. I'd say Okazaki x Nagisa and Okabe x Kurisu.
CC x Lelouch and Lawrence x Horo are worth mentioning.

But we all know that the best pairing ever is from Usagi drop, Daikichi x Rin no joke ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Or the two main characters from Pupa ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°), or the brother x sister in Yosuga no Sora.

Talking about incest, the pairing in Koi Kaze might be worth mentioning too.

And if we could include het pairing from a manga, I'd go for protagonist x the girl in bridesmaid

Chinese Botanist's Daughter (chinese movie) tragic but beautiful

I hesitated to put this one because the director is chinese but has lived in France for a long time, and having watched the movie in french, I wasn't sure whether it had a english adaptation or not. Agreed with Melevas, it's worth the watch.

Ah-ga-ssi is definitely the best asian sapphic movie out here imho.
And Fingersmith doesn't contain het scene, it's basically the same story but in England during the XIX's century. I believe ah-ga-ssi outshined Fingersmith, but that's a matter of preferences. If one is too lazy to read the novel, there is a [kind of crappy] BBC adaptation of it.
As for others asian lesbian movies, I have in mind Saving faces, which is fairly good, Love my Life, which is IIRC the adaptation of a yuri manga, can't remember if it's hosted on the site though. edit : whoops, already mentioned by the author
I haven't seen the following ones , but here are : Love Juice (from Kaze shindo, because you probably won't find it with the title itself), A Girl at My Door, Butterfly and Spider Lilies.
Memento Mori, but it's more a tragedy than an actual lesbian movie. Worth the watch though.

That's basically all I have currently in mind.

I'm on Ishi's side here, I'm never confident when it comes to remake, whether it's GITS or Blade Runner or any great old movie / serie, because these masterpieces are IMHO sufficient in itself and don't need a sequel unless it's something that has been thoroughly prepared and that comes from the author / director of the original. So I'm not hyped, I'm rather sceptical here.

Nice to see it updated. Kinda disappointing it has the cliche health issue, but I'm curious to see how it will turn out, the author did a good job on creating this aura of mystery the blonde-haired girl gives off. I'll keep an eye on this.

Edit : The "infectious" in the title might have two meanings here, now that's a metaphor that can be interesting.

Eeerm, no. The queen of yuri is Ejima Eri, and she's slowly becoming a goddess, in the same way as Otsu Hiyori, Morishima Akiko and the rest of the yuri goddesses.

Edit : Sabura Ota is everything but a yuri queen or goddess, Citrus is decent at best ...

Also, thanks for the enlightenment Ishi Tsuki, I knew it came from something I had already read.

Ah yes, Because a story of a Psycho lolicon & her creepy ass crush on a 9-year old girl is much better then a Dark, Interesting, Well-paced story about a girl on a mission to protect the one she care's about the most from 11 cold-blooded killer's wanting to fulfill their deepest desire's. Cant compare ami rite? :P

Yes, a manga that takes its inspiration in the very essence of the concept of lolicon [it does have references to Lolita whence the word Lolicon comes from], that breaks all the cliché usual loli, and on a more global scale most of the yuri tend to have / use, and that has a plot that always takes the best direction no one is expecting is, in my humble opinion better than a hybrid between shonen and yuri with assassins and an obvious romance between the main character and her target. Not mentioning the art because it's purely subjective, but I'm a huge fan of Ejima-sensei's art ! :P

But to each their own, I didn't crictisize AnR. I just consider Ejima Eri more talented, and her main current manga overall better than AnR. And this comes from someone who usually hate and even despise the lolicon genre. Yuzumori-san is a forthcoming fucking classic !
