The mobile game is the original for the BanG Dream! franchise. I have yet to give the anime a proper watch but in the game there is some pretty strong subtext in places I'd say. Kaoru as a character honestly goes beyond subtext though. Everything about her is gay, from her referring to her female fans using what is apparently lesbian slang to becoming a blushing mess when Chisato uses her childhood nickname. It's pretty great. There's some other stuff too for sure but Kaoru is definitely a highlight for those interested in yuri themes.

Hi, lurker here! I watched both seasons and s1 focuses on Popipa, so whatever subtext is within their band is probably there (other bands are no more than cameos really). In s2 they essentially squeeze an episode for each band and is mostly fanservicy in terms of the music in the games and comedy scenes. Some subtext is there but some of it is put on the backburner with certain characters pushed to the background because of the main plot. (I honestly wish Kaoru hand more screentime but oh well)

also, there is quite a bit of subtext and it’s pretty gay but the music and bands are the main focus kind of like K-On I guess
