Subtext. But really, really heavy subtext. Special Week has two moms and a father is never even hinted at, for example. There's a bunch of side pairings too, also with pretty heavy subtext.
On top of that it was a surprisingly solid show with very clear genuine passion and enthusiasm put into it (especially how the both the premier and every trailer leading up to it happened on April 1st).
Even if you're not a fan of sports anime it's a good time all around.
