Anastasia Moreno was a Japanese-American U.S. Marine veteran who was stationed in Okinawa, Japan and worked as a 5711 Nuclear, Biological, Chemical (NBC) Defense Specialist, where she played with gas masks and ran Marines through the tear gas chamber with glee. Her secondary MOS was 8611 Japanese linguist, where she spent sleepless nights translating boatloads of documents and interpreted at countless bilateral engagements between the USMC and Japan Ground Self-Defense Force units all over the Pacific.
After her 5-year stint in the Marine Corps, she became a military/technical interpreter by day, and freelance manga/novel translator by night. She translated yuri manga such as Girl Friends and Strawberry Panic, other manga such as Alive: The Final Evolution, Zero’s Familiar, Girls und Panzer and novels such as Love Hina and Trinity Blood. She also assisted in translation of the anime, Yawara!.
She most recently wrote and translated Marine Corps Yumi, and was the English adviser for the salty Marine jargon lesson books, Pixel Maritan.
Anastasia Moreno died of cancer 12 July 2015. Before passing she passed on her full story of Marine Corps Yumi to artist Nagomi_takeshi for him to continue the series after her death.
