@flips man this movie is like what almost 2 years old and I've seen a crap ton of fan works of these two. Maybe you're just not looking hard enough lol I honestly think they are the most popular pairing even more so than Kristoff and Anna. But let's face it, he was only there for the no homo factor XD

Does anyone know if the books are actually completed? When the show first came the novel series was listed as ongoing. If that's the case and, as the spoilers have said, at the end of book 3 Kumiko is dating Shuuichi, I would bet that they will break up before the end of the novels and Kumiko will end up with ... someone else... Whether it is Reina or not, I can't say...

It is very rare that the main heroine has so little interest in the guy she ends up with as Kumiko has at the beginning. Sure, they're friendly, but she has totally never thought of him that way. (I get the feeling she has never thought of any guy that way...) If there are more novels coming, I wouldn't doubt that the relationship with Mr. Boring goes away because she is drawn to Reina.

**I have somewhat good news regarding the novels. Some spoilers below, just don't wanna black bar EVERYthing.

The novel at volume 4 (I believe that's the latest one) gets even more yurilicious as things go on. After the whole ordeal with Reina and Taki-sensei going not the way she expected, she starts drifting more and more toward Kumiko to the point that it seems she's legitimately falling for Kumiko, and Kumiko starts to reciprocate.

Now as far as I'm aware, Kumiko doesn't fall for Shuuichi. it's more of a "agrees to date" kind of thing (volume 3). So my best guess is that Hazuki pushes for it hard, and for some reason Kumiko feels like she has to do so to respect her friend (and it probably happened around the same time she heard about Reina 'liking' Taki-sensei so she probably subconsciously rejected the idea of her as an option). Based on what we've seen from this novel's writing, I bet after not too long Kumiko will pull away from Shuuichi.

Also good food for thought is that we probably shouldn't be distracted by Tomako Love Story. Remember that Chu2 had a LOT of OCs...including Dekomori who they've all but confirmed is at least in a mutual love with Nibutani, so KyoAni is definitely NOT opposed to yuri. And since recently there's been a lot of successful testing of the water in terms of gay relationships, so companies are more and more inclined to use them.

tl;dr - yuri subtext comes from novels, hibike is not necessarily a het end (its just a het pitstop most likely), kyoani is more likely than we expect to commit.

Are you people kidding me. This anime was absolutely incredible.

It's one thing to watch it all the way through and dislike it because, yes, there was a LOT of subtextual reading-between-the-lines of plot devices you had to think hard about to understand. So yes, it's not for the casual viewer. But dropping a show before even getting 1/4 of the way through and acting like it was the right decision is a bit short-sighted.

It was a bit of a disappointment from Diomedea. They coulda done better. I wasn't particularly upset with the aforementioned cop out (they handled it well imho), but it felt like the end of an intro arc to a larger series. Which it isn't.

I stayed away from it when it was airing (only saw the OP and saw a lot that repulsed me). I gave it a shot a few days ago, hated it.

To begin with something heavily subjective, as someone who hates those "magical girls" and "idols", these are all shit to me - the ridiculous outfits and bear crap was REALLY cringe-y to watch, along with those "catchphrases/quirks" in the dialogue.

As someone who appreciates subtle symbolism as support in storytelling - I found the symbolism here annoying, it was so on-the-face about it, always feels like someone screaming "LOOK I USE SYMBOLISM ON MY STORY. I MUST BE SMART! COMPLIMENT ME!!!" as spammed symbolism became visual disruption and cripples the pacing, instead of using it to support the story.

Can't say I was particularly mind-blown by anything, when most of the time I just wanted to stop wasting my time watching it.

Since the anime is only 12-13 episodes, Either they will go the yuri route/het/nothing happens or make another season for the other volumes of the novel...maybe...

@ColonalCat Agreed with everything you said there. It really irks me that everyone that says they dropped it dropped it after episodes 1-3. When the story REALLY picks up around episode 3 and so on. I don't think it's fair to judge an entire series off 3 episodes just because it's slow at first, it has only 12 episodes you might as well watch the whole thing before judging it.

@flips well obviously you wouldn't like Kunihiko Ikuhara's work then because he uses a lot of what you seem to hate in anime to tell a story. That's a real shame because Yurikuma and Utena are my favorite anime of all time.. I mean I thought it was paced well considering the small amount of episodes. It was much easier to follow than say mawaru penguindrum in terms of pacing.
