The discussion started here so in order to not derail thread more (and since even when I asked to twice, nobody bothered to created new thread, and kept on spamming in Swap Swap) I created proper thread for this and any future discussion on supposedly vague boundaries of Yuri.

To be fair, a fairly large number of the Japanese terms used among western fans are either extremely outdated or outright wrong or never actually existed in Japan.

it's what some people decided to call some kind of yuri-light. That label is randomly applied to some stories that are labeled yuri in other places so it's hard to make head or tail of it. So let's stick to yuri and let's forget about that other label.

Shoujo Ai should refer to stuff like Oshikko Sensei and that hung like a horse one.

+1 to make a tag just for toddlercon with that name.

Yes and no, they also tag as shoujo ai things that are just subtext instead of yuri, so shoujo ai is not always yuri, but sometimes is yuri.

When I said "same thing", I didn't mean the Japanese definition of the word "shoujo-ai" which I know is NOT the same as yuri and means "liking young girls", sorry for the confusion.

So basically so-called "Shoujo Ai" in the Western sense is what (some) people in the other thread define "Yuri" to be, while what Westerners call "Yuri" is what one person described as "political" and another described as "lesbian porn".
