Sometimes something not being cute makes it cute, but I also totally get the idea of everyone talking about the appeal of something that just does nothing for you. I think everyone has had that feeling.

After many years of reading romcoms, "it was all a misunderstanding" is getting very close to "it was all a dream" in my book: right there at the top of the list of tired old tropes that grate on the audience and make you want to kick the author. Any variation that brings originality to the conventional approach is a breath of fresh air.
