Cameron actually addressed this. The long and short is that two people simply couldn't board it - it just overturns. I suppose it's possible that them each of them sporting a pair of Don't Drowns might change the equation enough to save them both, but I doubt it.

I highly doubt Elichika would let Nozomi put herself in that kind of danger just to make things a little easier on her.

Somehow, I would have expected their roles reversed here. But in any case, one such pair should accompany all maiden voyages of new ocean liners. For safety reasons. Unsinkable ships.
