^^ The Asterix's are translations of what the writing actually says - the 2 she gave her friends do NOT say I love you, it says Giri - obligation - i.e chocolate you give to your friends as a matter of course. The red chocolate for Lillie does NOT say best friend - it says Homei - favorite / genuine - meaning the real deal - romantic love chocolate. I guess she is too shy to admit it.
And obviously these 3 do not speak Japanese - well maybe the one who figured it out knows a bit? I haven't played the game but the protagonist is from Japan and the others are from the little fictional? island the game is set on.

Mizuki's chocolate means she does have (romantic) feelings for Lillie, but she told Lillie it means "best friends" instead for some reason. Maybe because she wants to get close to her without creeping Lillie out?
Also Hau is clueless while Gladion isn't sure of how he feels about Mizuki being interested in his sister.

Btw I thought the protagonist had no name? Where did Mizuki come from? Or am I missing something?

Mizuki/Moon is from Kanto which is, of course, based on Japan's Kanto region. The others are from Alola which is based on Hawaii so it makes sense that she's the only one who knows Japanese.

^I didn't mean where physically - I mean the name Mizuki - her only given name in the game is moon right? As in the English word, written in Katakana. So why is she called Mizuki here? Because it has the kanji for moon in it?

The protagonists have different names in the original Japanese, and sometimes fan translations stick with those. It's really not that complicated.

Looks like both ムーン (Moon) and ミヅキ (Mizuki/美月) are both used in official products, and the Japanese have just come to favor Mizuki.

^Thanks - didn't know that - then I have to say Mizuki is her name if it is used in the Japanese game. I find it annoying when a western release has name changes - Madison Taylor etc anyone? I know Mizuki means beautiful moon or something but it is still a name - they should of just called her Mizuki in the western release too - I mean everyone knows she is from Japan - she should obviously have a Japanese name anyway!

^ But, she's also canonically called Moon in the games. So it wasn't a bad move to call her Moon in English, she just, in some odd way, has two possibilities and the fan community ended up favoring Mizuki.
