Why is Hanayo not an alpaca?

Most people see Hanayo's spirit animal as a deer because of the SIF animal set (Hanayo had a deer hoodie or something like that) and because of her seiyuu's nickname ("Shikaco" came from the fact that Kubo Yurika is from Nara, which is famous for its deer population). That SIF set also helped contribute to the popularity of Eli = fox, Nozomi = raccoon, and Maki = leopard/panther IIRC. If anything, an alpaca Patronus might work better for Kotori considering how obsessed she is with them in the SIF stories + anime, but then we wouldn't have the "little bird"/Kotori pun, haha.

Wouldn't that make Nico compatible with Rin (or for that matter, Nozomi and Eri too) since I don't think leopards are known for eating mice, whereas domestic cats and foxes are.

That looks a lot more like a hawk than an owl, which would fit her "traditional Japan"/samurai image as well.

^ I'm so glad people recognized the seiyuu reference! On top of Shika-chan's reference, I'm wondering if the artist is inspired by the Fan Meeting at Tokyo Day 2. Emitsun mentioned that she was at the zoo looking at polar bears when she suddenly spotted a Honoka bag or phone strap.
