So like apparently there's new information that they are sisters (Peach and Rose)

^ Yeah, that's just the movie, which should be treated as canon as any other video game movie adaptation (i.e., not really).

Ah is that why I heard people were deleting fanart? If so that feels silly to me but ah well lol

^^^ I have see the latest movie, and how they were canonically confirmed to be sisters...but to be honest that's hardly surprising now. Fanon about how they're related is already old news (Thanks Game Theory, and if I recall correctly they were even speculated to be mother and daughter in that scenario), so it wouldn't really produce that much drama except for those who really cared about shipping these two now but are really against incest.
But it's not stopping the enjoyers anyway lol. I for one am glad that there's still good Yuri art of these nintendo girls~
Also quick vent, that "movie" isn't what I would really call a movie. Sure, it's really fun to watch and the style's really cool but the story behind it's just shallow.

@Din and @BoomAndZoom So should I take their being canon in the movie seriously, or just stick with the original game lore where they don’t have any biological relationship? I haven’t watched the new movie yet since I’ve heard a few times that it’s pretty childish and, as @BoomAndZoom mentioned, kind of shallow. Either way, I’m not the type to let canon stop my yuri ships ;)

^^ That's Miyamoto, this might conflict with the Galaxy storybook, and the games haven't reflected this anyway.

My understanding (as someone who hasn't watched the movie) is that Nintendo/Illumination wanted their own Anna and Elsa.

I hate that the new canon means that anytime I see a video about them on my TikTok feed (even old ones), everybody in the comment is yelling about fucking incest, theyre fake people.
And the reason incest is bad is because of babies, they're not having any babies

incest has problems besides just potential birth defects, but none of those really apply to fictional mascot characters. and even if we want to try and look at it through that lense, peach and rosalina hardly grew up together- peach had forgotten all about her. so aside from our society's moral panic, there's literally nothing wrong with it.
and besides, who cares what the movie says, it's not like there's a real mario "canon" that matters to any degree lmao

^ I agree I don’t really care what the movie says. Not to be that person (especially since I haven’t even watched it yet), but it looks like the story was simplified to make it easier to digest, probably because it’s aimed more at kids than teens / adults.
So yeah, I’m still going to ship Peach and Rose, they’re cute and hot together, and that’s good enough for me. (๑>•๑)
@ImheretoDie Also, I wouldn’t take anything TikTok users say at face value. The app is basically an open platform, so even people who aren’t invested in a franchise (or don’t even like it) will comment based on a random piece of info they just heard in a video weather or not it's true, treat it like a fact, and then scroll away.

^Plus I think a lot of social media "outrage" and adjacent behavior is very performative, a lot of it is to look good within the social sphere. All social media has that, and Twitter is infamous for it, but from what I've seen TikTok is currently the worst of it. TikTok is one of the largest platforms and the social media platform of choice for a lot of younger people.
Main thing is don't let social media stop you from enjoying things as a general rule of thumb lol
