My only guess is that the joke is somehow related to the "Eat your hamburgers, Apollo" comic/meme. Unless this is canon to the character. I've never played Ace Attorney.

^Ace Attorney, not canon. not even sure if they had a conversation in the one game (spirit of justice) they are both recurring characters.
Really fun series tho, and the The Great Ace Attorney duology seems to have a pairing with some ground (haven't had the time to play them myself to know for sure)

Ema's sister and Aura from Dual Destinies are both pretty much confirmed to be lesbians.
Adrian from the second and third games is also heavily implied.

Ace Attorney is more of a Yaoi series anyway. No, actually, all the homoerotic subtext between Phoenix and Edgworth were 100% intentional. There's a rather famous interview with the director of the first 3 games that mentioned they studied a bunch of yaoi vn's so they could write male dialogue better and admitted they went a little overboard.
At the same time it's subtle enough that if romance of any kind isn't your cup of tea it can be safely glossed over and enjoyable for everyone.
As long as I'm here I might as well further clarify that the Ace Attorney games are a series of murder mystery visual novels that have such unique gameplay it's a very easy recommendation for people who hate visual novels.
In the simplest, non spoiler terms, despite being a visual novel it plays much more like a traditional puzzle and logic game. As a defense attorney it's your job to actually pay attention to the dialogue and catch people in a lie by presenting the evidence that directly contradicts something they just said. They are amazing and I highly recommend them.

^Frankly I'm still surprised Phoenix and Edgworth never started making out in the middle of the courtroom lol

IIRC the thing about Ace Attorney is that the writers only started catering to the fujoshi from the second game on after seeing how much Phoenix/Edgeworth fanart there was online... but the first game's infamous "you give me unnecessary feelings" moment is still widely regarded as the gayest moment in the series. They somehow managed to have the most gaybait when they weren't even trying.

^ In the process of fact checking myself and citing my sources I have come to the depressing conclusion that it's probably bait.
However, it's really good bait.
