^^^ Not exactly "debunked", since the source material went with straight, KyoAni changes it in their adaptation but couldn't go all the way. But since when had we ever really given a damn to ""canon"" in our shipping business? Also, by the rule of "show, don't tell", we know what is happening on screen, and that's all that matters.

is it ok to ask this here? I never watched this one cause of the bad baiting fame, how did it end? with het? just "good friends"? can I watched that movie of the other pairing without watching the show?

^ The light novel (source material) ended the first part (Kumiko's first year) with het.
The TV series (2 seasons) adapted that first year, but removed/replaced the majority of developements with the boy, while the pair in this pic got so much screen time, including two, in their own words, "confessions of love", one from each side (though not strictly just in a "romance" sense, given context), but they didn't become a couple by the end of the series. The last episode ended with another love confession from Kumiko to another girl, and it went unanswered also.
edit: And Reina has a childish crush on the (male) teacher too.
Due to the existence of source material, KyoAni said in an interview that these girls are not gay for each other, and thus, the series is branded "yuribait".
The second year is adapted into 2 movies: Chikai no Finale (follows Kumiko's POV, and includes the short lived dating period with the boy, further compounding the yuribait accusation) and Liz to Aoi Tori (follows Nozomi and Mizore). Both can be watched as standalone films just fine, though the context would be better understood if you watch the TV series first. The first third of the second season is about the back stories of Nozomi and Mizore, their past with the band and with each other, for example.
Also, NozoMizo is fine and all, but skipping the TV series is skipping all the NakaYoshi goodies, which would be a waste.

And seriously though, why do gay ships of characters that are clearly straight in all forms of canon get a pass, while KumiRei, whose gay factor was wildly increased in the adaptation from a het material, gets all the flaks?

I'll keep it in mind when I keep considering in watching this franchise, since I've liked kyoani's works before I think there is a good chance I could enjoy this one, but a handful of things, among side them the "yuribait fame", have kept me from watching it.

^ There was one or two teams who started translating LN vol 1 (first year) then quickly dropped because it was licensed and released in English (by Yen Press, iirc) in 2017, but no other volumes, main series or spinoff, were released ever since, so it's kind of in limbo and unavailable in English.
If you want KumiRei, LN does have some fine details that weren't in the anime, but otherwise there's not much. There's a group that recently translates parts of later volumes (I will edit to add the link later, I'm on the road right now and couldn't recall ot off the top of my head), and I did find some good material for NakaYoshi and NozoMizo amongst the little I've read, so if you want to cherrypick to build your own head canon and/or write a fanfic, take a look.
