"Dorothea being distracted from her quest for a noble husband"

Bugpope Jan 27, 2020 9:58PM

Dorothea openly being a gold digger was part of what made me feel meh about her. I get that it's set up for character development later, but still.

HellAQA Jan 27, 2020 10:06PM

Dorothea openly being a gold digger is what makes me so mad that she has any A-romance supports with men. She's a walking yuri trope and it upsets me that she doesn't have exclusively f/f romances while teasing f/m throughout most of her interactions. She's my favorite character partly because that element is so concisely portrayed as a character flaw that needs to be resolved. Her having f/m romances completely counteracts that, especially any romances with nobles. Like, um, did the writers even read their own story? Her f/m A supports are so ooc they all gave me whiplash.

^Fire Emblem has always had terrible writing. They know this, and brought on a new writer to address the series weak writing after Awakening, and it got even worse somehow. Why on earth everyone is so enamoured with the characters this time around is beyond me. I have a hard time looking at Three Houses without a lot of cynicism.

I find flawed characters quite interesting. Also as a language learner who struggles with spoken language I connect with Petra so much <3

DrElephant Jan 28, 2020 2:04AM

@HellAQA I think the reason why they made her have male a supports is because people who don't want gay couples still have an option. Yeah it's shitty but the more recent FEs have been about freedom of choice so I could see that being a reason.
@Lythene Have you played Echoes? That game had some incredible writing and one of the few strictly gay characters. Sure they might have had a different team make the game but I don't agree with the writing being worse after Awakening.

RandomGuy Jan 28, 2020 2:54AM

@HellAQA Forgive me for my confusion, but what flaw are you referring to? Maybe it’s because I haven’t seen most of Dorothea’s A-supports with the BE boys (the only BEs I had in my first run were her, Petra, and Linhardt), but I didn’t see that much throughout her supports with Petra that were too far of a departure from her supports (although they were my favorites). In every case I’ve seen, she seems to go from “seeking a rich husband to take care of me,” to “seeking a good person.”

So ... If someone just purchased this game, is there a particular route to squeeze the most Yuri out of it?

I ask, because there are so many ships and I seem to recall seeing something on here before.

RandomGuy Jan 28, 2020 3:29AM

^Probably the Black Eagles, since they’ve got Dorothea, Petra, and Edelgard. The Golden Deer and Church also have a couple options, if you squint. Not sure if the Blue Lions have any, though.

I will also point out that you can recruit just about everyone, save the house leaders, to your house (with a few exceptions depending on your chosen route), so you can get yuri in just about any house provided your willing to put in the effort to recruit the characters in question. Also, a word of warning, the only paired ending you have full control over is who winds so up with the MC, so try to keep your chosen pairings together on the battlefield as often as is feasibly/tactically possible, just in case. Hope this helps!

Huh? Mercedes can be S-ranked by a female Byleth, and she's a Lion. It's the Deer that doesn't have any bi girls. Or dudes

^I haven’t gotten around to the BL run yet, so I didn’t know that. Thanks.

And yeah, with the GD I was more referring to the Hilda/Marianne and Leonie/Shamir paired endings. They’re basically platonic, but if you’re willing to squint, there’s a little bit there.

UrsaTempest Jan 28, 2020 5:17AM

Hey, before this, Fire Emblem only has one yuri route. One.
And it's not exclusive.

Yeah, it's bad, but using FE previous standard? They've improved enormously. Hopefully, next title there'll be exclusive yuri and gay route.

@Lythene Fire emblem 4 is good and you can't change my mind

ckretaznmayden Jan 29, 2020 9:33PM

For anyone who would need this, I made a spreadsheet of who is recruitable and what queer relationships they can have in each route. This one I made for my first playthrough of the game, but I haven't updated it because I'm waiting for the final dlc and patches to the game.

Blue text means that they have multiple a-rank same-sex relationships. Black/green bars determined which relationships I pursued on that playthrough, some of which I have yet to particularly check.

...poorly written characters? Gold digger? Did we play a different game, or are y’all just salty? Three Houses makes it pretty clear that women aren’t in the best place in Fodlan society, and Dorothea grew up dangerously poor, got into the opera house for her beauty and singing voice, and like anybody who’s been that poor, is trying her damn hardest to never end up back there again. Her approach to that through trying to marry rich is a perfectly understandable tactic for a woman in semi-medieval times without any family, and her character arc is that she realizes that she has the family she needs with her when the war phase begins, and from that point on her relationship interests are to satisfy her other needs—namely, that she’s a romantic at heart. Some of her marriage supports with the men are really good, and I don’t know what the hell people are talking about saying it goes back on her character. She always wanted to get married to someone she loved, and boom, she’s doing that.

It’s a good game. A little easy, but good.

I just read your comment, let me address some of the empty slots:
El x Dorothea: Platonic, maybe worth?

Hubert x FERDINAND VON AEGIR: really neat.

Lindhart x Caspar: decent, similar to Ike x Soren for those who are familiar.

Sylvain x Felix: probably my favourite ending for Sylvain.

Mercedes x Annette: subtext? I mean they end up living together so....yeah, maybe text

Nukesithea x El: one of the better endings for our favourite Death knight killer. They are partners against crests.

Marianne x Hilda? It's cute. You can use your imagination in this one.

Not sure why Hanneman is here, his best endings are with Lindhart, Lysithea, or Annette. pls get Lysithea ending and save her ;_;

Haven't finished any more runs, Cindered Shadows on hard took me a while. Hapi why are you not a S-rank option RREEEEEEE. She has an ending with Constance at least.

Edit: before I forget, let me put a giant * on the fact that endings change depending your route.
