Actually, in Fate lore it isn't Excalibur that was in the stone. It was Caliburn, which Artoria was forced to break and thus got replaced by Excalibur and Avalon.
So no, they did follow the existing lore correctly, according to your comments.

That's what you said. I'm not saying there aren't things that have be misconstrued or changed in Fate's Lore compared to actual mythology, but I am just correcting what you said.
And I did mean "and Avalon". In Fate Lore, Avalon is not only a location, but also the name of Artoria's Scabbard, which connects to the world of the Fae and heals and protects her from harm.
