Forum › Reasons why you're hitting the 8 download limit cap

Since we have implemented an 8 chapter download limit per 24-hours we're bound to get some more popups of the questions of why one has hit the download limit.

So, here are the usual cases of why you've probably hit the limit:

  • You've downloaded 8 chapters beforehand already and just lost count.
  • You're sharing a connection in your household/unsecure WiFi and other people who are using the same connection (and thus have the same IP) have downloaded before you.
  • You're using a download manager/accelerator (people still use these?) and the way they function is that they open up multiple connections to the server in an attempt to download faster, but each connection counts against the 8 per 24-hour limit.

We are still discussing amongst ourselves on the IRC every so often what the best solution for keeping our bandwidth usage down is, and what to do if we can't keep it down reasonably.

They work by opening multiple connections at once to one file, so it can take more than its fair share of bandwidth. Because of that, I have no interest in supporting them.

How about adding extra limit of 1 download per minute? Would probably help people that aren't aware of how download managers work, and also maybe limit "peak" bandwidth without inconveniencing anyone.
