I bet Kase will be upset, but not because Yamada missed out on her race because of work, a Japanese person understands that. But because she pushed her body so hard to the point of collapse again. She already said in that episode that she wants Yamada to quit this job after she fainting.

Hehe, knew it. I could forgive the forced drama if it's to show how they are maturing and growing up.
I expect another scold from Kase-san (this time lighter and cuter) after buying the bed and rings.

I just bought volume 4, the volume that covers the entire race arc (by the way, 4.9 out of 5 stars by Japanese readers LOL), and in the omake, it's clear that Inoue knew Fukami was in love with Kase-san.

Did she order the race to give Fukami a chance? This confirms her as the villain of the arc. What a bitch, knowing how good and sweet Yamada is.

guys is this worth picking back up again? i stopped early in the sequel

Personally, I recommend to read until chapter 26/28 and give it another break, at least since the actual arc is finished.

The fluff is unbeatable, I have to say, I generally like the drama in this series; it's usually lighthearted, with a few misunderstandings. But the story arc that follows those episodes (26/28) is terribly forced drama, literally the author created the perfect storm from nowhere in the last three pages of an episode.

I still have some hope on the author. This drama has the same vibes of the race arc (scenario built in just one episode, sociocultural obligations, not thinking about your relationship first...), I don't want to believe that she'll repeat almost the same frustrating scenario again.

Personally, I love the light drama in this series, and the best episodes are when they agree after the drama (Crickets and Kase-san, Moving with Kase-san pt. 2...), so I hope this one has a good and new resolution.

They both need to priorize their relationship above all else, well... welcome to japan, i guess XD

I hope that she will arrive "in extremis" when Kase is about to lose, and kase will have a boost just from seeing her and win the race.

Hmmm... I wonder why three of their workers quit lately...

I couldn't care less about the club drama. It's not a sports manga. Where's the cohabitation fluff? Is that too much to ask? Keeps getting worse and worse.

We have been reading episodes of fluffy cohabitation since chapter 37. Literally one calendar year. Personally, the most I love this series is when the two communicate and are on the same page after some light drama.

She doesn't seem to care about social constructs, and values competition above all else. Maybe she flirts directly with Kase or notices that when Kase is worried about Yamada she is slower and tries to break them up. Trying to convince Yamada telling her that it's for Kase's sake, perhaps?

I think the arc is about our main girls' competitions. I don't think this new person will be involved romantically at all. I can't see what would essentially be a repeat of the same setup we just had, back-to-back.

I hope so, at this point and after the "race arc" another jealousy arc will be repetitive and pointless.

I honestly had to go back to the previous chapter and check the dates for the gardening contest with how this series has been messing with their plans at times, but looks like they should be fine this time. So nice to see the two brighten up each other's day. ^_^

If I understand correctly, what may coincide with Kase's competition is the local exhibition of the president where Yamada goes to learn with her classmates. The competition where Yamada participates is in September.

If I had to bet, I'd say Doi's role will be to be the trigger that makes their relationship public.

I can't wait for Doi-Yamada first meeting in the competition, and it'll be great to see a Yamada-Fukami interaction, it has been ages since they talked on the beach.

God I hate how Kase always tells Yamada to not wear this and that cuz there are perverts around!!! LET GIRLIEPOP BE A CUTIE ALL SHE WANT PLEASE.

The thing is that Kase has a strong sense of protectiveness towards Yamada (mixed with jealousy XD) who is totally oblivious to the effect she has on the boys. In the first series she almost suffered sexual harassment at the school festival when some boys wanted to take her by the force before Kase arrives to save the day.

And in the pool, the mixed party, on the beach too she was surounded by a bunch of guys... Kase is very popular with girls, but Yamada is irresistible for the guys.

I love the lovers' pair up t-shirt.
So sweet... So cute (>///< )

Oh and uh..
Is it wrong that.. say one person rents the apartment, but another (roommate/partner etc) moves in without letting the realtor know?
That way they could save the money (rent paid by half since there are two person staying in there)

It usually depends on the contract with the landlord. In this case, the apartments where Yamada and Kase live allow two people.

Is there a way to read it raw? The chapters are published in the WINGS magazine a month before their translation.

If there was a way to have the raws a month earlier, we'd release the scanlation a month earlier, too. As of now, we have to wait for the online version of the magazine to be ripped so that we can translate and release the latest chapter.

I'm sorry if I didn't express myself well and it sounded disrespectful. I really appreciate your work, I really do. Thank you for bringing us each chapter and for the response.

I assumed that rent and food are paid by their parents. Then, the whims (like vacations and presents) with their salaries when they have worked a little.
Like when Kase worked at the beach to buy the necklake for Yamada. She wanted the money just for that, which implies that their basic needs are covered. Maybe in Kase's case by a scholarship for sports performance.

This manga has never worried about world building XD

Seems like Kase's drinking adventures start and end in this episode LOL

I'm curious about that Doi girl. I want some drama that shows how Yamada and Kase have grown up. Not just a simple jealousy arc again.

Maybe that girl likes Yamada istaed of Kase? Yamada is extremely popular with boys, but she hasn't caught any girl's attention yet. Could be interesting, a threat in both love and race for Kase.

I like the idea that the new girl, Doi, somehow meeting Yamada and likes her instead of Kase. It would be something new, Yamada is very popular with boys and Kase is just jealous of men (although more than jealousy I would say it is protection, because of how clumsy and innocent Yamada is lol ). It could be an interesting dynamic.

A "threat" to Kase in sports and love at the same time

Absolutely... point by point. All of these elements were literally implemented in the last pages of "Tea-cup and Kase-san."

It's as if it were the author himself who ordered Kase to run.

I was referring to many people who in other forums (way toxic than this one xD) put absolutely all the blame on Kase. I have even read that she is the worst girlfriend in GL manga LOL when she is just dense. Those people in particular don't care about Japanese social behavior, and if we add that to the fact that you have to wait 2 months for each chapter it makes it even more frustrating.

I swear, this forum is an absolute oasis

Anyway, I'm happy with the end of these. Fukami accepting and being a good loser, Yamada happier than ever in her first choice apartment with Kase and next to her best friend, and Kase apologizing and reflecting and with the small punishment of living wall to wall with Mikawacchi lol
The chapter "Moving with Kase-san pt.2" is one of the best of the two series.

And re-reading the arc... I have the sensation that most people had been so hard on Kase, even unfair.

She was coerced and forced with everything that is important for a Japanese:

-Personal debt with Fukami, fore leaving her the room task and find out her leaving from third parties ("on" and "ogi")
-Social pressure for her classmates ("sekentei") and Keep the group harmony ("wa"), colleagues whom she has to continue seeing every day and working with them. They aren't flatmates that you leave and never see again.
-And a direct order for a senpai, who didn't even ask, just said "it's decided". A relationship what implies respect and obedience, Disobeying her is not only not contemplated by you, but you also discredit her position of authority compared to the rest.

Making her literally impossible to refuse. That's why Yamada didn't get angry about the race, she did when Kase told her that it was Fukami's idea.

And despite this, it is implied that she was also going to leave the dorms eitherways:
https://dynasty-scans.com/chapters/yamada_to_kase_san_ch32#10

She prefers to leave on good terms, but here she is clearly preparing to face a direct conflict, something terribly violent in Japan.

I'm pretty sure that the japanese readers understood this arc way different than mostly of us.

Ah, the details you forgot during the months of waiting for new chapters that you notice when re-reading the series again... In the end, it looks like the entire (mostly ill-received) race business was set up by the author for the sole purpose of forcing Yui to wait until an apartment opened up in the very first place she liked.

Yes, I just had this discussion on another forum. After this arc, Yamada is even happier living in that apartment and Kase hates living wall to wall with Mikawa, it's a shame Mikawa hates it too lol

I tend to stay out of the manga-prediction business, but for some reason this time I can’t help wondering what role Doi Mizuho is going to play. [EDIT: ^ I see I am not alone in this.]

I bet that she'll be better than Kase in racing, at least at the beggining. It reminds me the Kase's fortune prediction in the new year chapter. It said that Kase's dream (live with Yamada) will become true, but it will affect her sexual and academics life.

I hope a drama beyond jealousy, after the race Arc this will be even more pointless and repetitive.

Hello, it's my first message in the forum, and I wanted to share some impressions of the last arc.

I think I'm gonna be a bit of a discordant note and I'm going to play a bit of Kase's devil's advocate, although it's true that I didn't like the "Fukami arc" either, but I blame it all on the author, for wanting to lengthen the manga unnecessarily, although Fukami's plot had to be put to an end, it didn't seem like the best way.

Yamada (who I adore) has a hard time expressing her feelings and Kase loves her so much that she isn't even able to conceive of being with another person, which is why she is not aware of her girlfriend's jealousy and suffering. Furthermore, Yamada didn't tell her that the rental contract was expiring and they were in a hurry to move. The moment Yamada tells her her feelings, Kase realizes her own mistake and feels very guilty. There is Kase's punishment, living wall to wall with Mikawa, something Kase didn't want (and Mikawa neither xD).

The negative point is that she should have stood her ground and not accepted the race since the very first moment. But between her extroverted and compliant personality, the debt to Fukami for not doing anything in the room for an entire year and the confinement of all her dormmates she subsided. And she crushed her greatest rival, when her goal is Yamada she is practically superhuman. Even more, we must see the issue of social relationships from a Japanese point of view, where social pressure is incredible. And the japanese stigma of a homosexual relationship aside, even more when Kase is lesbian and she is living (sleeping, even showering) with women.

For me, the great villain of this arc is neither Kase (who does not act well, I repeat) nor Fukami, who at least has a point. It's Inoue, who even knowing that Kase is going to live with her girlfriend forces an absurd situation with her authority.

I hope this arc served as a very important turning point in their relationship. With Yamada expressing her feelings and Kase understanding her better and putting her before everything. It could be their definitive consolidation as a couple.
