Wait, I have a theory: maybe the reason Ena is stuck in a time loop is because she was dug out “prematurely” either that or all cupids get stuck in a time loop if they fail to match their friend. I kinda get that vibe because her timeloop starts the after the landslide (her death), while Koharu’s mission with her friend happens 5 years after her death (once her friend fell out of love with her). Like we can see that Kitano falls out of love with the guy in the middle of the timeloop while he falls in love near the end of the timeloop.

I’d like to think she has some form of twisted affection for Ena as she didn’t have to do all that to isolate her so that she would wish to have been loved then become a Cupid. Also, because I feel like Ena would have recognized her if she was actually similar to someone she knew.

I'm going to be honest. This story is kind of similar to "Indulging a Crazy Beauty" where a lot of the conflict is the protagonist being forced into situations with the love interest often with an element of coercion...

I finally caught up to this manga again! To be honest, I forgot so much of it that seeing the two girls tricked me into thinking this was Kaede and Nami’s high school era. To be honest, their designs are quite similar. Dark-haired girl and light-haired girl… There is definitely some narrative going on.

Okay, so I read Pat Me Please (the novel) then a bit of Night Tide. The latter is a sequel in that the main characters from the former return and that a lot of the character building that the girl who time travelled received is covered in Pat Me Please.

I think it would not be impossible to guess at certain character beats, but Pat Me Please does build three characters that Night Tide does expect you to know. Also, Night Tide’s intro already spoils the ending to the love triangle (angle?) of Pat Me Please.

Pat Me Please might be required reading for this manga if you are already confused…

To be honest, I really love this manhua as I've read the webnovel using MTL years ago and has been my favorite GL ever since.

I think Ji Youyan's problem is more clear in the novel, but only because you can get inside her head. In the novel,
Ji Youyan's problem is her self-loathing. She genuinely believed in her past life that Jing Xiu didn't love her or couldn't keep loving her after all that she put her through. At that darkest moment of her life, there was no room for Jing Xiu, only her own self-loathing.

That's why I appreciate the story so much because the being reborn part is necessary in my eyes. I think theoretically the same thing could've been accomplished by Ji Youyan being in the hospital from excessive drinking and if Jing Xiu visited her, but she would never pursue Jing Xiu again in those cases because she would just deceive herself by believing "Jing Xiu was just being nice to her ex-girlfriend" rather than "Jing Xiu still cares for me".

Because Jing Xiu cancels her marriage and attends Ji Youyan's funeral, Ji Youyan is aware that she cares for her. That's what gives her the confidence to pursue Jing Xiu again. It is sad that someone can be so self-convinced of her own unworthiness that she would be stuck in place until she literally dies.
