I personally think the ending would be fine if Lara was happy to go be independent. But the way her face wasn't shown and the fact that Mari was crying hurt me. Also I don't care if it's yuri or not, deep down I just want a good ending for these good characters. But not even a hug? I'd hug a friend if they were leaving. I think it's out of character for Lara to not act on Mari's feelings. I think it was really out of character for her and that's what bothers me most about the ending.
I think I also would've wanted a small scene or hint in the future that Mari achieved her dream and Lara fulfilled her promise. I feel like they made Mari suffer just for a sudden ending that Lara didn't seem happy about. Maybe for a different ending, it could've been high school gradation and Lara decides to move out and go to college or something that feels less sudden. Also I was hoping more for a scene that remembers Grace. Maybe just even a small bit of dialogue or something in the background so it doesn't feel a little brushed past.
Anyways that's my small little rant. I love this anime though. The art style, voice actors, soundtrack, and characters are great. I love you yuma yamaguchi :D
