Its more that the overarching plot of Sunshine ultimately rendered half the girls worthless. Besides Chika, the only ones able to actually interact with it were the Third-Years (who got the majority of the focus). Even Ruby's relevance only came in extension to Dia. You, Riko, Yoshiko and Hanamaru meant literally nothing by the end.

Funny realization I had regarding Love Live Sunshine. Hanamaru's backstory states that she spent her entire life a background character, and she joins to actually star on stage.

She ends up little more than a background character anyway by the rest of the series.

Wonder how many people that pissed off.

I think that ties to the general perception of damaged men being "attractive" to women. Look at Fifty Shades of Grey for an example of that trope.

Actually, that raises a valid question. Why is there plenty of yuri material written by women for women, but literally all yaoi is catered to the female gaze, with literally no male writers involved period?

Having seen the latest Sunshine episode, I honestly wish we got to know what the other girls prospects for the future are. I feel not planning that when the school's closing and Aquours is fated to end is a tad shortsighted.
