I haven't been reading shounen romcoms for some time and so I'm wondering: are aquarium dates as common in boy x girl stories as in yuri?

Or has the aquarium date become a defining staple of the yuri genre?

It would be funny if it had. In the future, when some girl who likes cute fishies tells to her friends that she wants to go to the aquarium, the others would go OH NO R U LEZ??? lol

I can't speak for shounen romcoms, but for shoujo series aquarium dates are kinda common but I wouldn't say they're the default. I've seen more amusement parks and festival dates for shoujo/josei manga. But in yuri, aquarium dates pretty much always happen LOL. Something about gazing at fish that just appeals to the sapphics I guess (also speaking from personal experience).

fish are yuri

This series has a lot of "really?" moments but somehow this one just takes the cake. Deal with the grouchy roommate drama later, that's something that can be dealt with later on. Literally finalizing an apartment lease is way more of a priority.

Yessss TaaRO! I love her art so much.

Also to answer some of the posts further up, it probably feels like a fusion because a lot of Taiwanese doujin artists draw comics right to left (not always the case, but common). Japan occupied Taiwan during the first half of the 1900s so there's still a lot of Japanese influence.

I know it's a small detail but I like that the author draws some body diversity (the twintail in this side chapter, Butsushiri).

For real though, loving the absurdity and incredible art in this loool

Also Japan really likes weird food.

This is set in China and the two fls have Chinese names ^^

Ssssh this is a Japanese comic for me

Cheese seems like a weird topping for a sweet drink (speaking as a former "who the hell puts cheese in their milk tea" person), but it's actually quite good. Here's a menu from a chain that popularized salted cheese foam on milk tea in the USA and a few other countries: https://happylemonwest.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Untitled-design-1-1024x580.png

Is this chinese or chinese-based? Sorry If I'm mistaken, but those names sound chinese.

It's Taiwanese! But yes, the names are in Mandarin.

hinako is sooooo cute... i hope she realizes that it's okay to call her feelings love soon and that asahi also recognizes it too (*꒦ິ꒳꒦ີ)
i love usui shio's adult life stuff, the characters actually do things and talk it out and the introspection is so delicious... really gives me hope as a young adult also tiring of life...
