During the Heian period, Minamoto and Taira were two family names given by the Emperors of Japan to members of their own family if they got demoted to simple nobles.

Emiri is Himeko's childhood friend (flashback).
Himeko is the mother of Rie and Mayuko's aunt from her dad's side (Toshi).

The chapter title most likely comes from a song performed by Carmen Mika & Blues Creation.

Seriously? That song's probably 200+ years old. It's a black spiritual.

This came up when I was searching around, and you're not wrong, but I'm assuming the author first heard the song from Carmen Maki (my typo) seeing as the other chapter titles are drawn from songs of Japanese origin of the late 1960s-1970s.

Seems to be an error with the caption on ch7 page 18. The sentence just cuts off in the middle.
