I was reading the official English release and saw that they translated one of Kanna’s lines in the first chapter as “They’re really down bad” which was such specific (and I assumed Anglospheric) slang that I wondered if it was simply localization on the part of Yen Press’ translator, so I went to see if the translators on here also translated Kanna’s line that way (kind of anticipating the answer to be a negative), but I was surprised when the line was also translated as “down bad" over here too. It kind of makes me curious about what she actually said that made both translations choose that particular wording, especially considering the rest of line is translated differently in both versions (here the whole line is “These two are really down bad”).

GQuuuuuuX is hetbait because besides him and Machu kissing Machu is almost entirely concerned with either Nyaan or Lalah for the last few episodes, she literally has to be reminded he exists by Nyaan in episode 11 and when she and him meet up again she only talks to him about Lalah’s wellbeing. Hell, during her final monologue she’s basically just calling him a bad Newtype while telling Nyaan the exact opposite message about herself minutes prior, you could remove the confession and kiss and nothing about the narrative would change. It’s such an inconsequential part of the story I really can’t say anything about it, because clearly the writers themselves didn’t care enough about it to make it at all compelling.

Friend, I wish I could do this, but the confession and kiss isn't just some random thing, it's the climax of the entire show and what solves the central conflict, since it's what impels Shuji to give up and the central conflict to end. Not to mention that the last line of the anime is entirely about Shuji. It's not hetbait, the het relationship is just incredibly badly written lol.

Which is why I said, this doujin is gqux if it were good :p

It’s not what compels Shuji to give up, what really convinces him to give up is learning that both Lalah and Amuro want him to give up and realizing he has people who care about him as a person (again, not saying this is well written, but I get what the show is going for). I think the hug they share is really cute and heartwarming, and if it was just the hug I think I would like the finale more. Even the last line would have been better had the audience not been primed to think of their relationship as romantic. I guess it’s better to say that it’s thematically pointless comphet.

Real asf , as soon as I realized that sewer rat was sticking around for longer than an episode or two I dropped the show completely. Absolute bullshit after getting so hyped over that pilot and the ED

He honestly got worse as the series went on, though part of that was me thinking "sure Shuji has zero personality and is totally boring, but surely he's that way for a reason" and then it turned out, no, they just accidentally wrote a terrible character lol.

The sad thing is I really would have been okay with Shuji, and even okay with him and Machu kissing, if they'd just given a fuck about him. If they'd actually bothered to write him as a character instead of having him exist as a thing that the girls fight over

Or if said kiss hadn't come after a full episode of him declaring to love someone else.
