One thing that’s really well shown is Toriko’ hurt expression after she says she loves Sorawo and Sorawo isn’t able to say it back. Sorawo talks instead about having “the closest sort of relationship in the world” in a way that ignores Toriko’s feelings and is pretty rough. We tend to see things through Sorawo’s eyes and this is one time we get to see Toriko a lot more clearly than Sorawo does.
I interpret Toriko's reaction slightly differently. Sorawo is deflecting the question "I Love You, do you understand?", but still makes it clear that she has strong feelings for Toriko when she says "You and I have the closest kind of relationship in the world". It's also a callback to when Toriko said that, and means she has been listening closely, and treasured those words. It feels very tsundere, like she's in denial and can't face her feelings, but is not totally oblivious to them. I think Toriko is touched by that despite her frustration, and hugs her tightly with the combination of feelings.
It reminds me of when Sorawo told her not to "act like her boyfriend", making Toriko sad, but then said "This is our world, and ours alone. I'd never let anyone else in" making Toriko really happy.
