Also, Iro's name could also be based on the Finnish name Iiro, though it's most commonly used for men.

This is actually the first thing our QC Menord and I discussed while we were deciding to pick up the series. They suggested Iiro, as well as Ilo.

The reasons we went with Iro were:
1) we found official content posted by GanGan Joker with Iro romanized as such, and we're not going to argue with the author;
2) my calendar has a name day for Iro listed on April 5 alongside Irene, Ira, Irina, while curiously Menord's calendar doesn't. So at least my calendar's publisher thought it was a valid name :p

Chapter 5: Changelog 30-MAR-2025: We originally called the little guys "dwarves" because the kanji Rikitake used, 小人, "little person," has been used for the dwarves in Snow White, among other things, where as gnome is more often translated from ノーム. However, since feedback was very consistent across our audiences, we discussed our options and decided to update all instances of "dwarf" to "gnome."

RE: the bonus chapter 4.5: apparently the reason the pair is attacked by a random duck is that mallards (siniorsa) in Finland have a reputation of being aggressive about taking bread from people, even to the point of earning the nickname "bun ducks". Context provided by Madologist on Mangadex.
