I wasn't referring to her critique, but specifically to the Story A formula, quote: "There is a girl, she likes another girl. The other girl likes her. They like each other. The end." This is basically the plot of this manga, no?

Yup. But I would note that Friedman does continue, after that playful quote, to write an entire essay elaborating on what she considered the Story A formula, beyond just the jokey summary of "2 girls fall in love. The end."

True enough.

The bonus chapter made me realize that NanoFate are a much less fucked-up and gritty alternate universe version Sahoko and Rio, respectively. :-(

It's a little surprising that Fate isn't a lot more troubled than she is, even in their universe. But I can see it.

In my headcanon, she really is as messed up in the head as Rio -- it's just mostly left off-screen, along with most of her recovery and re-adjustment during the pre StrikerS time skip. The main difference between them is that Fate was given strong moral principles by Rynith, and so her self-destructiveness (mainly in A's) was more of a "sacrifice myself for others" kind, while Rio is simply hurting herself in-between having unhealthy relationships.

After reading Erica Friedman's article on the "Story A", I can't help seeing it in every yuri manga I read. Even this one, despite its settings, is a classic Story A with an almost-classic girl-prince...

I was curious enough to google the "Story A" and I liked the critique of yuri tropes, which seemed to boil down to 1) lack of clear lesbian identities/awareness and 2) yuri as transient and not expected to last in context of real work/family/life. But for those reasons, I don't think Friedman would consider "Now Loading" a classic "Story A" since Sakurazuki Kaori has an unambiguously "gay heart" and the story also explicitly engages with making an adult relationship work despite job/life pressures.

You know, for a game that's 15 years old, NWN sure retains its community. It's almost as if gamers like games that respect their intelligence and creativity.

Imperial Yamada, I kinda like the sound of that.

Space Battleship Yamada?

"dark souls of theme parks"
please tell me this is just being extremely liberal on the translation
was a nice read besides that though.

A theme park full of slippery edges over 100 m drops and mindless, respawning animatronics out to kill the visitors sounds like a great business idea.

Does the height of one yamada include the sprout on top?

Not sure, but yamadabuds are used to measure shorter lengths.

How many yamadabuds are one yamada? I'm not good with imperial units. :-(

The series seems to be doing the Kara no Kyoukai thing where unresolved elements from previous, seemingly unrelated arcs all get welded together into a single overarching climax.

Has Kase's height ever been explicitly stated? I keep thinking she's "tall" in a western sense but then I remember this is Japan.

I prefer to measure Kase's height in yamadas.

what is a call girl ? something like prostitution ?

Basically, a sex worker who isn't public about her services. Unlike a street prostitute, you have to call her or her agency to get an appointment first, which is why she's called that.

I hesitate to ask, but what's the final verdict on the "final chapter" statement? Was it just an editor oversight, after all? Has the author said anything definitive on the matter since then?

author apologized on twitter and has said that it is not the final chapter.

Alright, thank you for setting the record straight. :-)

Lol first you turn vampire then you turn gay XD

I'm all for lesbian vampire harems too

You are aware that vampirism has been used as a metaphor for lesbianism since pretty much the inception of the genre? ;-)

Are you alluding to a certain vampire novella that predates Dracula? ;)

It's more of a "directly referencing" than an "alluding to", but yeah. :-)

How is this depressing as fuck again? I get that tag was there since ch. 1, but the first chapters weren't exactly depressing either.

I also support the motion to move that tag from the series as a whole to just the first chapter. Is there a way to officially suggest this change to the mods?

I laughed my butt off when Mochida went around the room listing the did-not-dos especially when she said, 'someone here hasn't done the debugging.' That used to be the story of my work life cuz duh... debugging and testing suck and sucks the life out of you!

Still beats having to write documentation.

Does anyone know how often chapters of this manga get released in Japan? And also maybe how many chapters have currently been released over there? I'm not quite sure whether the scanlators have caught up to the most recent one or not...

It's a complete 1 volume series with, I believe, 5 chapters.

So there is just the final chapter left to this?

Between this and Bakeneko System, I'm going to die from cat girl cuteness overload!
... Not a bad way to go, I must say.

Also, I have heard that death by cuteness is not permanent, anyway.

Congrats on being cool and aloof, but just lol if you didn't expect people to state their opinions on this site, repeatedly.

People still won't stop calling Yuzumori creepy and gross after well over a dozen chapters.

It's just how this site is. What you're considering "losing your shit" is just people being opinionated, which is what the forum is meant for.

I can clearly see that, now that you are getting worked up over me getting worked up over people getting worked up over an April Fool's prank. ^^

A lot of folks here are just really insecure about their yuri reading.

I don't disagree with your statement in a general way but people do kinda have differing senses of humor. Humor's a very subjective thing and what one person finds funny could go over very poorly with another person.

I don't disagree with your statement, either, but there is a difference between "disliking the joke" and "losing your shit". I didn't care for the "boyfriend reveal", either, but as soon I as looked in the calendar and confirmed on the forum that it was a joke, I stopped thinking about it.

So now the boss is going to fall for her... LOL!

Just like how her secretaries did with her. It's quite ironic.

A karmic taste of her own medicine.
