Probably the ratings were not stellar so the editor told her to wrap it in one chapter. Just guessing, but mangakas rarely cut their manga short willingly.

I thought that too but when I went back to reread chapter 1, the magazine inserts were advertising it as "a short, intense series". It was probably supposed to be this length.

That should be alright. No one can copyright an idea, they can only copyright the expression of that idea. So if you make a play based on this idea with your own characters in your own setting with dialogue written by your own hand, that should be fine.

Man. Mitsuboshi has got to be the least effective accomplice ever. Not only was he being super obvious, he nearly lead Asahi right to Shio! Though I have to wonder, seeing as he was basically repeating what Sato told him to say, maybe he was set up and Sato wanted him to be caught.
