Okay, season recap, yuri focus edition:

WIXOSS: Has an actual lesbian couple which ends horribly, but if you're watching Wixoss in the first place you're expecting that. Also some definite undertones with Ruuko and Tama as well as her second LRIG. The thing here is that Wixoss is basically Suffering: The Series and if you're not into that it's not going to be worth watching

Sora no Method: Nonoka and Shione's relationship ends up being fairly eyebrow-raising (they literally move in together by the end), but takes a while to get there. Series itself is pretty good. Would recommend if you want a low-key drama

Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de aru: You have no idea. Er, technically Yuuna x Tougou isn't confirmed, but you'd need to be blind not to see it. The series itself is basically Madoka but more anime and generally happier (generally). It's not as good as the series it's mimicking, but that leaves it at 'quite good' instead of 'brilliant'

Girlfriend (Kari): Uh, I only watched the first 5 or 6 episodes. Episode 3 strongly resembled something from Yuri Hime or Hirari and was pretty good, but the rest of what I saw didn't have much yuri and was kind of mediocre

Cross Ange: Has yuri. Also has het, is incredibly trashy, and generally not very good

SHIROBAKO: I actually have no idea how this turned out. Anyone able to help?

I hope we continue with the sleepover next chapter. This setting has potential for all kinds of things

Eh, it's the only one selling itself as yuri, but between KanColle, Koufuku Graffiti, Re-Kan, RGZ+, Show by Rock, Sound Euphonium, Urawa no Usagi-chan, and a few others I think we'll be seeing plenty of fictional lesbians

Yes ... through sheer willpower and friendship!! Tougo's decision (absurdedly selfish, but I didn't mind that) was easily swayed by Yuuna repeatedly saying "I won't forget". This I did mind.

Really? I thought that was fairly reasonable. It was a irrational, impulsive decision, so an emotional appeal is the best way to talk her down

Not to mention the effects of Mankai/Sange is suddenly gone. If Shinju could just magically turn them all back to normal, why did he need offerings of the heroes' bodies then? If this is the case, why keep Sonoko the way she is and leave her to suffer like that? This is why I cannot like this ending unless there is something more coming our way.

I think the idea was that they killed so many vertex during the fight that there's no attack expected in the foreseeable future, so the hero system can be significantly relaxed. The offerings helped power it, presumably

@Hylarn: you sure? that was pretty gay...

The VN bit was some cute ship tease, but this episode was basically themed around them being in love

The WaShuYu novel has been translated to chapters 8/9. No one is working on the manga adaptation but I doubt it'll be much different from the anime.

Did not know that

...Okay, looks like the translation is here

As for the ending of the show, I'm actually kind of disappointed. It was a fun and exciting ride until you find out that everything they went through didn't amount to much.

Eh, I think that saving every named character and at least a few others is fairly major

So, finale occurred. Uh, that VN scene is not the gayest thing in the franchise anymore

So, the doujin itself was fairly decent. Wonder if I'd get more out of it if I was familiar with the original work, though

That was fun. This kind of relationship seems to be a recurring theme for these two

Well, they're clearly intentionally playing up Itsuki x Fuu here. Eh, I don't mind

Karin chapter is interesting because it hints at her actually having a backstory

Best credits

Plot is... I don't Chihiro or Nao, which doesn't do good things for my ability to enjoy this

With that flashback scene is the latest episode ("I want to eat your snacks every day!") they're pretty much married...

...We're certain Sora is a dude, right?

MariMite started out as a light novel series, not an anime or manga

And I note Yuzuki is picturing Kohaku and Hisui on page 069... she should probably be glad those two aren't around

Something I really liked about this was the way Hirasaka captured just how pretty Mamizou is. A lot of artists have trouble with that

Wait Dog Days had yuri subtext? I watched the 1st 2 eps all all I got from it was Nanoha Force.

Yeah. More so in the second season, but it's eventually present in the first

So, next season is kind of interesting. Entirely too many sequels, lots of cute girls doing cute things, a bunch of shitty LN adaptations, and some other stuff. Here's a rundown of that second category:

Tantei Kageki Milky Holmes
Starting on January 3rd
Synopsis: Fourth entry in the series, with a tone closer to the first two entries than the third
Probable yuri level: About the same as the rest of the series? I haven't actually watched any of it
Overall outlook: I imagine most people have already decided whether they're going to be watching it

Yuri Kuma Arashi
Starting on January 5th
Synopsis: Something about lesbians and bears that's going to resemble a drug trip
Probable yuri level: Maximum
Overall outlook: It's going to be pretty good but intensely symbolic and difficult to follow. Also, campy

Kantai Collection
Starting on January 7th
Synopsis: Young girls who are also warships. We've been told we'll see some fights, but most of it will be set at the base
Probable yuri level: Probably about as much as the game; that is, some characters will have very questionable relationships with each other. On the other hand, there is official art of Kongou getting handsy with Fubuki...
Overall outlook: Good! The animation previewed is top-tier, and the writer excels at this sort of thing

Koufuku Graffiti
Starting on January 8th
Synopsis: 4koma adaptation about a girl who makes friends through cooking. The eating scenes are described as "slightly erotic"
Probable yuri level: As a Manga Time Kirara series, we can probably assume the girls will be shippable at the bare minimum
Overall outlook: We have big names on the staff for some reason (Shinbou is directing, Okada is writing). This should be decent at worst

The Idolmaster Cinderella Girls
Starting on January 9th
Synopsis: Idols. Cast is new, but it has most of the same staff as the original series (no, not Xenoglossia)
Probable yuri level: About the same as the first series? I haven't actually watched it
Overall outlook: Animation looks good and I hear good things about the first series, so...

Dog Days''
Starting on January 10th
Synopsis: Third season. Tone looks to be closer to the second than first
Probable yuri level: If it's anything like the rest of series, there's going to be loads of yuri subtext, but also plenty of het
Overall outlook: Probably going to be pretty good, but not enough so to justify watching the first two seasons unless you're bored

The Rolling Girls
Starting on January 10th
Synopsis: The prefectures of Japan have become independent countries and are getting in fights with each other. Flashy, colourful fights. Our main characters are a group of travelling girls that aren't really involved in that
Probable yuri level: ???? The writer should be familiar with homosexuality from his time on Sengoku Basara, at least
Overall outlook: There's a tendency for anime original series to try various experimental ideas in an attempt to be unique and interesting and end up becoming complete messes. The upshot is that trainwreck syndrome means that the failure is often entertaining in it's own right

Go! Princess Precure
Starting some time in early February, probably
Synopsis: Has yet to be revealed
Probable yuri level: Dunno. Precure is a crapshoot
Overall outlook: It's a Precure series. Bottom-tier animation and loads of filler can be counted on

...I was bored and wanted to be able to find the thread when time come to do a retrospective for the current season

Pretty good for a shounen battle manga, but not something I ever expected to see here

I gotta say, for a bunch of dudes(?) reading a manga about a school torture club, some of y'all sure are picky about a stray trap...

I think the reaction was mostly "This is fine the way it is now, but has potential to go very wrong"

SHAFT itself has an inescapably positive one.

...I really have to question that one. They do a lot of comedies, but they tend towards the cynical side, and the serious works tend to be pretty dark

positive payoff, which was very solidly delivered and thus everybody celebrated

Madoka's ending is really fairly bittersweet, even before Rebellion. Witches don't happen anymore, but people still die just as often and Homura kind of got screwed

By delaying/drawing out the revelation of whatever sick cruelty they've invented for their particular mahou shoujo story, they've directed the anticipation of their stories towards "when/how will we see these characters suffer", instead of "when/how will we see these characters survive/self-realize".

Uh, I don't think we have enough Madoka clones to make a blanket statement like that. Particular when the other one made it's form of systemic cruelty clear in the second episode

This series is so amazingly terrible. It's like a step away from self-parody at this point

Is the series as grim as Madoka? I find myself put off watching that, knowing what's ahead. Maybe I'm a big wuss that way, but that's how I approach stuff like this.

The first half or so is mostly just unnerving. Once the other shoe finally drops it does start getting there, though
