If they're already living together, it would also mean that they had their first sexual encounter (that actually went somewhere) offscreen, in the timeskip.

That would not be consistent with the way the story has been told so far. This is Yamada's story, and the story has so far paid close attention to her "firsts". So it's very likely that we will see her first full-blown sexytimes with Kase-san on the page, rather than it happening off-screen.

Takashima-san did the same thing back in August. A very short chapter followed by a longer chapter as part of a two-part chapter. Back in August, she did it apparently because she got sick with the flu while drawing the chapter, so they divided it in two. Maybe something similar has happened here.

Your comment made me think, but I indeed found it surprisingly hard to come up with a decent anime where the main protagonist is male without falling into the “generic template” trap.

Takeo Gouda from My Love Story!!/Oremonogatari was pretty non-generic.

Also, I'm impressed so many others liked this story. I was expecting the thread to blow up with people being outraged and taking it too seriously. :p

What I've learned from this is that people are outraged by cute, fluffy stories, but enjoy messed up stories like this.

Apparently something like this where the one doing the hurting doesn't enjoy it at all bothers me more than one where they do, lol. (Though that's not saying much since those ones don't really bother me at all to begin with.)

In my headcanon, she likes it and is bothered by the fact that she likes it, but she'll eventually come around. I went through a similar thing when I discovered that I enjoyed hurting my romantic partners. It's a strange thing to discover that you enjoy (for example) slapping a woman in the face (consensually of course) after being raised to believe that only a low-life abusive asshole would ever do that to a woman. There's a lot of soul-searching that needs to be done and cognitive dissonance that needs to be worked through.

So Kanan is working through that cognitive dissonance. In six months, she'll be spanking Iori with gusto and enjoying every bit of it. At least, that's how it plays out in my head.
