The only problem with this one is that I just can't understand Komachi's dilemma here. Even if Akyuu dies, Komachi just ferries her over to the afterlife and continues to drop in and spend time with her. For a shinigami who runs a ferry across the border between life and afterlife, the death of a friend should warrant no more emotional turmoil than a friend moving from one side of town to the other.

Usually this would be the case; but, from what I gathered, Akyuu's soul is treated specially from other souls and has her identity and personality from her life erased during the reincarnation ritual to preserve her Gumonji. That was presumably why Komachi went out of her way to acquire the executor shinigami privilege. So she could remove and preserve the part of her soul and personality that made her distinctly Akyuu, her friend, and not Aichi, Ani, Ami or any of the other Miare incarnations or the Miare she would reincarnate into.

Or I'm completely wrong and I'm dumb. That could work too.

No, that's what I got out of it. Komachi was freaking out because souls aren't normally destroyed

Good stuff. Well made, fits with canon, and breaks out of the usual character groups

So, with the season wrapping up, my impressions:

Owari no Seraph: Shit. Do not watch

Mikagura: Fun, gay. Supporting cast is kind of crap. Worth a look

Pleiades: Good tone, decent art, bad everything else. People around these parts are particularly unlikely to appreciate it, as the MC has good chemistry with a girl but ends up with a guy

Re-Kan: Passable? Large parts felt repetitive and dull, but it could be fairly good when it really tried. Also fairly gay when it really tried, but this showed up in the oddest places

Euphonium: Very well made, and I didn't like it. Yuri issues aside (which... I'll leave for other people to get into), it ultimately ended up being too dramatic and too unfocused for my tastes

Kekkai Sensen: Fucking awesome. Not yuri at all, though

I suspect I'd really like this story if I knew anything about these characters

HomuMami is a bizarre idea

(Lamia yuri would be a close second. If it existed.)

I thought Mikagura was pretty good. Not without it's problems, but consistently entertaining, and that's what matters. And, yeah, it clearly stops in the middle of the story

For all that the concept was interesting, I don't think it accomplished much before it got cancelled

I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, but it never did

So, yeah, Re-Kan had a decently shippy episode
