It's not uncommon for people (like this author) in ultra conservative regions to show signs of internalized hoophobia and other bigoted opinions (even if they themselves are), just sayin'

Additionally, internalized homophobia sometimes displays as "it's normal for gay/les to be discriminated against" instead of "it's just plain wrong", although the former can also be explained with "it's just the reality we live in".

That's conflating recognizing the state of affairs with uncritically accepting it. "Normal" doesn't mean "good" and does not preclude something being "plain wrong". Lots of things that are "plain wrong" were "normal" in the past, as "normal" is entirely dependent on societal circumstances. "Normal is an illusion. What's normal for the spider is chaos for the fly."

Now I do get the disappointment at the issue of the Duke's wish for grandkids being "solved" rather than "overcome", which takes away an opportunity for character growth, but I wouldn't jump to too many conclusions about the people behind the story.

Boy am I glad that I let myself be talked into playing this last week. It's been mentally consuming me since. I don't believe I've ever put as much mental effort into connecting lore, story and character elements presented in a rather obscure way as in this case, and I've enjoyed every second of doing so.

If you can stomach some horror and cruelty (towards characters as well as your feelings), Signalis is a must play.

Aaah, finally took the anime announcement as motivation to re-read what's been uploaded to Dynasty. Definitely one of my favorites.
On to Mangadex for the rest, which I had previously never bothered to read.

Good reason to re-read it then. I stopped around chapter 20 and hadn't picked it back up since. It's at chapter 43 on mangadex now. Here's hoping the later TLs can keep up with Yuri Ichigo and Knight Heron.

AI images (almost used art here, yuck) are lush and "detailed", but it's also super obvious that they're done with AI once you've seen a few, even if the typical errors are corrected.
It's ultimately just soulless. It's the sum of its parts, nothing more.

Anyway, this is, for once, a "jealousy arc" I can get behind. It kinda just fits and makes sense to me in terms of character constellations and opportunities for growth. (flashbacks to the Citrus anime consisting of nothing but three jealousy arcs)

I would imagine it's more of a mishap while exporting that went unnoticed as opposed to an intentional censorship.

I think it corresponds far too exactly to "lightsaber" style censorship seen in (het) hentai for it to be purely accidental.

Matsuri rubs me the wrong way. Has from the start. The cute, supportive things she says are always undermined by art and typesetting (if you can call it that), turning what would normally be seen as a supportive, uplifting character into a manipulative one.

I think she'll be a highly toxic influence.

No, Wakaba has Komaki. Komaki's troubled and therefore trouble in and of herself. Komaki can't conceive of a world where Wakaba and her could be together, so she's trying to push her away as hard as possible to make Wakaba cut ties with her, because Komaki can't bring herself to do it. Well, Wakaba is naturally awakening to her own feelings for Komaki and things will go the way things go in manga. Matsuri is not a guardian angel.

Anyway, if you really have to know, you can always read ahead in the light novel I guess, but I'll stick to what I can glean from the manga alone.
