So my entire exposure to Love Live! is from yuri doujins on this website. I have never read the original manga, nor have I ever watched the anime.

And it's stories like this one that make me hesitant to take the plunge, because I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that the interactions between the characters won't be anything like what I saw in this comic.

My theory is that the more prone you are to using these manga as wish-fulfillment, the less likely you are to appreciate anything but stories with happy endings.

The reason I asked about the translation, though, was because I notice the words "Dear" and "Darling" being used as terms of endearment between Mel and Lynn (and between Mew and Donut in Lily Love). And I can't speak for any other native English speakers, but those terms of endearment sound very archaic to my Old Guy ears. Like, those are words I'd expect to hear Cary Grant use in a movie from the '50s. I'm not saying that they're the wrong translation of the original Thai, just that hearing it (or reading it) from a modern-day character sounds kind of odd.

It's not a big deal or anything, but you guys are such pros that I thought maybe you'd want to know.

There is also the possibility that I am isolated from the wider "Dear"- and "Darling"-using world out there, and am completely wrong about this. If so, feel free to disregard.

Also, a question:

Is Thai the native language of the scanlators, with English as their second language? Or is it the other way around?

Ratana is making script in Thai and we translate it to English and publish at Lezhin later.

I'm just curious if you (the translators) are native Thai speakers or native English speakers.

Same here, not least because it's canon. Plus, they're both grown women, which I relate to a lot better than I relate to high school girls at my advanced age.
