What an enthusiastic rape.

Well, it is Mira after all. Happy Endings go hand-in-hand with her work. I'd be shocked if there was a Depressing as Fuck manga done by her.....

They're teenagers doing it for the first time. Teenagers do and say dorky things.

Yep. I mean, hell, think about the goofy faces we all make in the heat of the moment....

Happy Tofurkey Day to my fellow Dynasty Scan posters here in The United States!

Possibly, but as other shows that came later, and the eventual success of Studio Ghibli films (actually, there was a dubbed version of Totoro much earlier than the Disney releases) proved, changing anime to suit a western audience wasn't necessary in the first place. It's entirely possible that translating Macross and other shows directly would have gone over just as well as the heavily altered version that was Robotech.

Yes and no. Harmony Gold had already done a direct translation of the first few episodes of Macross and released them direct-to-video. The difference being that Robotech reached a much broader audience by being released on Tv. I know some think that something more along the lines of Force Five (ie - anthology series) might have worked better. Like I said, its an artifact of a different era.

:shrugs:

All I know is that had it not been for Robotech, I would never have been exposed to awesome animation like this (given that Southern Cross was not popular in Japan and is far more well known in the US).

I think one of the biggest misunderstandings many later fans have about Robotech is that it wasn't geared towards the emergent anime fandom. Say what you will, but it had a more broad appeal and when it aired, it literally was so far ahead of the pack it wasn't even funny. The fact is that most American kids/teens (at least) had little exposure to cartoons where people died (unless they were my age and remembered Star Blazers from the late 70s/early 80s).

Of course, nowadays you couldn't do something like Robotech, let alone Voltron (which used the same formula with Go Lion and Dairugger XV). They are artifacts of a different era, when globalization really started to kick off.

:shrugs:

I don't begrudge anyone for liking or not liking Macross or Robotech. My ire is mainly directed now at the IP holders of the Robotech franchise due to the current Creative Director being a jagoff who has gone out of his way to downplay (if not outright ignore) The Masters War (SDC: Southern Cross).

I remember seeing a few episodes of Mospeada at a con, the year before Robotech was aired (we only got half of the last series around here, for some reason), and quite liked it. Back in the days when "Carl Macek" was synonymous with "chainsaw editing". I also remember the original English pilot for Robotech, which had (terrible) lyrics to the theme song. They aired it at that same convention.

That was the one thing that bothered me about fans of my generation is they ragged on Carl mercilessly. He actually did a great deal to make anime popular in the US (people forget his work founding Streamline Video). Some rather vocal idjits celebrated when he died a few years ago, which shows you how bad fandom can be at times.

As for me, I'm still a fan of Robotech (though I prefer The Masters War as shown by my avatar, followed by The New Generation with The Macross Saga dead last). Often times people will say 'Just watch Macross and you'll love it", to which I reply "I've watched all but Delta (which I saw the first episode and decided it wasn't for me), including the entirety of Macross 7 (blech) and Macross Frontier (which was nicely animated, but the story not so great IMHO).

As for the HG dub version of Macross, the opening sounds like someone trying to imitate old Blue Eyes Frank Sinatra..

The only good thing about being a Robotech fan now is the works done by fans of the series (since the IP owners are jackholes) like Robotech: Visions (a Facebook web comic series).

I think one of the biggest issues some people had with Citrus, was their constant teasing. The "Would they, should they" crap they were doing on every chapter was getting annoying.

Yea, at some point you have to go "Drek or get off the pot". Drama, angst and so forth is fine but sheesh. There is only so long you can drag it out before it becomes Depressing as Fuck instead. Of course, I'm a sucker for a happy ending so that may taint my views somewhat....~_^

Seven Samurai is legit awesome and you can see elements that eventually resurfaced in films like Star Wars in it.

It was also a partial influence on Genesis Climber MOSPEADA (aka Robotech: The New Generation outside Japan) for us old folks that remember it.

Never thought I would say it, but I'm so glad I have no clue what "weaboo", "waifu" or any of that stuff actually means (sure, I know the definitions....). Guess its one of the advantages of age.

Now.....get off my lawn! Damn kids with your new fangled terms and such. Back in my day we called it Japanimation and were glad to pay $35 for a VHS tape with 45 minutes of animation on it! We had to walk 6 miles to the nearest anime club, uphill in 3 feet of snow...BOTH WAYS!

Heh, rating on American barbecue I see ;), but oh my, you have so many interesting dishes there! (You are from America or am i wrong? XD) I actually like black eyed peas quite a bit! Well and who can dislike barbecue. Cheese grits look deliouse too mouth waters

As the saying goes where I grew up "Born in America, Southern by the Grace of God" (which is kinda snobbish in that regionalism way that many Americans are guilty of to this day). As for Grits, there is only one way to eat them in the South: with pepper, salt and butter. Any other way (like covered in cinnamon & sugar) is considered blasphemy! ~_^

So it got me wondering everyone what's your favourite takeout (or home cooked) meal? I'm jus really curiouse what people like to eat across the world ahah ^//w//^

I'd have to go with the style of cuisine here in the US we call Southern Cooking. Its sort of a catch-all for lots of southeastern US dishes (which often overlaps with Soul Food). Things like Fried Chicken, Collard Greens/Turnip Greens/Mustard Greens, Black-eyed Peas, Grits (especially Cheese Grits with Freshwater Catfish or almost any freshwater fish), Country Fried Steak (specifically, simmer-fried in a cast-iron skillet which is VERY different from what is often a Texas dish of the same name that is "Chicken Fried", as in deep fried), Tomato Sandwiches and most important of all Barbecue (specifically, sliced pork & beef, but also ribs).

Speaking of which, Korean Girls Try American Barbecue is a cute YouTube vid: https://youtu.be/gWKOUxF-Dso

Sounds interesting... I'm a sucker for good sci-fi stuff so I'd really like to read it...

Speaking of good sci-fi, has anyone here read the novels that the SyFy series The Expanse is based upon? I've already re-read A Song of Ice and Fire (hurry up, damn you George Martin, I want The Winds of Winter sometime before 2017 is over!) and its not quite time for my yearly reading of The Lord of the Rings so I need something to tide me over...

D'aaaawww.....Mira always pleases with her stories. I'm a sucker for happily ever after, for some reason (of course I went to see Beauty & The Beast 7 times at theater way back in '91...and I was a 19-yr old college freshman in a fraternity!).

Pacing was weird. Seemed like one second she was masturbating in her room, then the next she was suddenly in the infirmary having sex with that girl.

Yea, that bugged me too. Still, a nicely drawn bit of hentai....

Great, now you've reminded me to wonder if the slang word "Johnson" is delivered from LBJ.

Quite possibly, since he was a dick....

@Anon

Trump is funny if you view him as entertainment.
But not funny for a possible presidency... O_o

This is the single worst slate of major candidates I've ever seen in my entire life. The United States can never again complain about any Banana Republic around the world ever again because Drumpf and Killary literally look, behave and act like cartoonish villains you would expect in some 3rd World dictatorial hellhole "democracy".

Trump is revenge on the party bosses by the Republican base for foisting McCain and then Romney upon them. Romney is especially true given how Trump became the nominee was by using Rule 40b (the "Ron Paul Rule") against them. The schadenfreude of the party elites being hoist upon their own petard alone was hilarious (and I say this as someone that wouldn't vote for Trump if you threatened to murder me to do so).

Anyway, hope I didn't get too political for the forums.

@Z. Long - Cream Lemon is probably the closest thing I can think of....

Do any of you guys know those “Jehovah's Witnesses” folks...?

I'm starting to believe that they're really after me. Every time they make their round in my area they always come back to me... No matter how many times I tell them that I don't plan to join...
One of the ladies – the one doing the talking - is so nice and sweet that I just can't manage to tell her to please fuck off already. So I'm being polite but it's really not working... HELP! ^^”

I can be pretty nasty when someone gets insolent but I can't be like that when someone seems genuinely nice...

@Anon99 - Easiest thing I've found (at least for me) is to tell them I'm a Deist and don't believe in Revealed Religion (which for me is the truth). You'll probably get looked at as if you had just invited them inside to partake in a ritual sacrifice to Cthulhu, but it usually has the effect of them leaving you alone.

Or, of course, you could try something like this (really, and I do mean REALLY NSFW):

Is someone watching the women's football on the Olympics?

@Blackkitty - Heh, I realize y'all call Soccer that everywhere outside the US, but when you said "women's football", I couldn't help but thinking of this:

@old fart - love the name. it's how i feel most of the time and goes along nicely with my new rant on how 'getting older is a ?itch' :-(

Heh, meant to reply to this and forgot. I specifically chose the name because I figured it would set me apart just enough to give people a chuckle. And it certainly is a biyotch getting older! Of course, I get to say "Back in my day, we had to pay $30 for a VHS with 45 minutes of Japanimation on it! We didn't get no stinking 8 hours of anime for $50 and complain about it! Why, we couldn't even go to the local video store and get it. We had to go to comic book shops or call BooksNippon! Get off my damn lawn! Ungrateful kids."

Just to keep the balance I will join in with a beautiful piano xD

No fair, if we're gonna do piano music I raise you Frank Mills' best piece...

Edit: Hearing this song reminds me of being a kid in Atlanta. I absolutely loved this song and would listen, enraptured, whenever it came on WSB-FM (since that is mostly what my parent's listened to when I was small).

What's the longest song you've heard from start to finish and enjoyed?

Probably Iron Butterfly's In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, just because its damn near 18 minutes long, which released was a few years before my time (4 to be exact). Its one of those oddly pleasing tunes even if its complete and total nonsense...

Though I guess I could actually go with something more along the lines of E.G. Daily's Love in the Shadows (Extended) since she was an 80s rocker....back when I was a teenager.
