Not entirely sure yet, but new girl doesn't seem to be part of the love triangle so much as just having a lot of (non-romantic) respect/admiration for Kuzeko.

As to whether now's a good time, sure? There's an event going on right now, but it should be relatively simple for new players. The event currency drops on all stages so you can grind while you progress through the story.

I've only seen the first story so far, but I like it. These events are usually a lot more light-hearted than the main story, with a few exceptions Children of Ursus... This part in particular was unexpectedly funny:

Finally finished reading FGEP! It's definitely something I'll need to reread at some point; there's a lot of foreshadowing and subtle details that I probably didn't appreciate going through the first time. The language took a while for me to get used to, especially how formal it could get when talking to the emperor, but I more or less understood everything everything.

I very much liked it overall, so much so that I'll go and pay for the chapters later. One minor thing that I wished was explored more was other characters' reactions to Lin Wanyue's real gender. Li Xian had the most detailed reaction of course, but I wish Yu-Wan's thoughts about and interactions with Lin Wanyue were explored more before she died, especially since Lin Wanyue later called her her best friend. Also Lin Baishui's and Xiao Shiyi's reactions weren't shown at all in the extras, which I was pretty disappointed in.

I'll probably read RUZHUI next, since I did enjoy Please Don't Laugh's writing but am not really in the mood for something too dark and depressing. Given the premise and the fact that it's been a few years since she wrote FGEP, I'm pretty interested to compare and contrast the two stories.

Welp, no Ceobe for me (I ended up rolling more than I planned after seeing how she called Vulcan nee-sama). I finally got Sora (two of her, even!) though, so I’m satisfied.

The new mode does seem cool, though I haven’t taken a good look at it yet. I feel vindicated for E1-ing all my 3-stars for no reason now lol

Eunectes seems interesting and fun to play around with, but probably not a "meta", must-have operator in the way Bagpipe or I guess Saria are.

In other news, apparently the latest CN event has a lot of shipping material for Gavial and her childhood friend Tomimi, so that's something to look forward to. Also Gavial's bedside manner involves hitting the patient with a bat until they can't feel pain anymore, and there's Originium slug racing you can gamble in.

Thanks for the recommendations! I'll check them out after I'm done with FGEP. I'm currently at chapter 116; it really is a slooooow burn but I like these types of stories so it's all good. I did skip ahead a bit, but I've been enjoying it more than I expected considering how the romance isn't even the main central theme. Still really looking forward to that scene Ticcy drew :P.
