One day Namori will get to write a full series that isn't YRYR. That's gonna be amazing. Well, YRYR is too, but in a totally different way.

Posting something like they did in another language IMMEDIATELY AFTER they posted in English is a transparent attempt to slip something by the mods. It was what they said that was unacceptable, not the fact that they said it in another language.

Quite late, but this point is well taken. Sentiments like "Fuck you author" are best kept to oneself in pretty much all circumstances. Not good.

Personally speaking... but I'm pathologically conflict-avoidant. That said, the discussions here seem remarkably civil to me.

Honestly, same. Though I don't think there's anything cowardly about avoiding topics that make you feel bad.

This still works even if they're immune, it just makes Kaguya an extra sneaky person.

Interesting that instead of a single rebuttal, you suggest a ban on even talking about it.

Given that Sakura Cartelet is under no obligation to explain themselves to anyone and has already expressed their discomfort with the conversation multiple times, I don't really think this is the correct response. (not saying this as a mod)

Why allow (modern) politics discussion when it would be simply easier to place a blanket ban on them? Politics (and Religion) are often minefields and flame war inducers in that it's very hard to have a neutral or "good" discussion without offending other people either intentionally or otherwise.

Put simply, if I were most motivated by what would make my life easier, I'd either not be here, or I'd simply ban everyone who causes trouble and move on happier for it. Broadly speaking, people seem to enjoy these discussions. More importantly, just by nature of the content on this site, "political" discussions are often unavoidable. If more users would rather not see such discussion happening in this specific context, I would encourage them to speak up.

I don't usually talk about this, because it's embarrassing and something I'd much rather move on from, but I was heavily into conspiracy theories and alt-right nonsense in 2016. I literally had to spend a week in a hospital three hours from where I live in order to get my head right again, and it took the next three years to let go of all of it.

Well, I'm very glad for you that you got out of it in the end, and thank you for sharing that. The friend's father I mentioned is one of several (thankfully, only several) in my life who have headed down this path. Any story of escape is heartening. From my view, it appears that the most influential conspiracy theories in the present (2018-2020) center Trump in some leading role, so much so that it seems very difficult to be embedded in them and still hold the man in serious disdain. For those with limited knowledge or attention, especially, these conspiracies often cast his greatest personal weaknesses as being a source of strength or sense of relation.

Following the above. As I've mentioned recently, the site is for the first in a long time undergoing some small system updates. While these are necessary and useful for everyone, I don't believe there are currently any plans for larger updates in the near future. Unfortunately, I don't see a report button being a small update, but I do think it would be a great feature, so hopefully I'm off-base with this one.

I was going through the recent posts on this thread and I'd like to add my voice to that of the people who requested tags for suicide and a more general content warning. It'd definitely be helpful to many people, including myself. There is one series I'm following that ideally should get warnings for both self-harm and suicidal thoughts in an upcoming volume, and it would be great if we could add those tags before the offending chapters are released for the three people who read that series.

We hear you. Feel free to get in touch with me on Discord if you wish to give us any sort of advance notice for that series you specified, or any other work for that matter.

There are plenty of valid reasons to vote for Trump if you believe in the Republican agenda. He's been the most effective Republican president in three decades, and it's entirely possible that he has revamped the party's electorate so as to allow its continued dominance of vast swaths of the US. Or perhaps for many of Trump's voters, the prospect of a Biden administration would have a negative impact on their livelihoods, or their way of life, culturally. (the degree to which the latter points are true won't be apparent for several years still)

While political discussion is acceptable here, I'd definitely recommend great care in discussing personal voting choices, etc. from this point onward.

My mom has tried to refute him repeatedly to no avail. My parents have been arguing about the election for months. The majority of their arguments end with my dad screaming at her about how she's "brainwashed" and refuses to "look at the facts". I personally think that the best way to help my dad would be to set him up to have a discussion with someone who's an expert on these topics and educate him. I think maybe my brother can talk with him.

I'm so sorry, SF. That sounds like such a terrible situation, I can't even imagine. My best friend's dad turned out like that in the last few years. The legion of misinformation readily available on the internet is just too strong for some minds, especially older ones, to handle. I feel as though it's a significant leap to interject with any suggestions on how to handle this, but I got carried away and wrote some anyway, so you may indulge me if you wish.

There appears to be no "cure" for this kind of conspiratorial nonsense, but I believe the available evidence shows that arguing with people stuck in delusion is generally counterproductive. Your family may be better off avoiding confrontation with him whenever possible, and re-framing your shared experience in such a way that he feels less of a need to go down this path. Solving some "root cause" (loneliness, lost self-esteem, life pressures) may be a better means of addressing the issue. Should someone wish to intervene, you may have more success exposing him to different viewpoints (YT videos? Podcasts?) that he can digest on his own time. Confrontation and self-reflection, by extension, are often easier to manage when they don't involve those closest to us. Should some of his motivation appear to stem from a mistrust of "official sources," there are many less-conspiratorial options that tout their Indie status in the Right/Libertarian or Left/Progressive categories.

Lastly, while it seems bad at the moment, there often is a positive resolution in sight. Your chances of making a difference, or having a difference made, seem better the earlier on he is in these circumstances. There are many - many - tales of this same story resolving itself in a matter of a few months, believe it or not. I really do wish you the best of luck and safety. At the least, hopefully he gets over that ridiculous "cutting the internet" business.

(and no, I'm not a professional or anything, so please take my advice as "I read a lot and am interested in this subject" and not any remotely authoritative opinion.)

This is great, the level of utter silliness is much appreciated. All the TL notes reminded me of the pain of learning Mahjong from scratch, but now I'm kinda in the mood to pick it up again!

Also, thanks so much to DB as always, for keeping the spirit of Touhou alive, even as the rest of scanlation scene here has more or less moved on. Keep up the great work!

Credits page? Ah, that explains why it was in this thread. I never read those...

Which gives me an opportunity to say, this series has some of the best around!

I don't think there's any reason to believe that Virgins' Empire is getting licensed as of now.

Which is a shame to be honest.

Given the complexity of licensing from multiple publishers for a manga with hundreds of chapters, the commercial lack of success for Maki Maki (of course it's not fair, but publishers usually aren't), and the fact that the manga sorta flips genres halfway through, I'm honestly amazed it's licensed anywhere. I do hope it's doing well in Germany, though. Their publishing scene's business practices always looked pretty good from over here.

Waiitttt is Teiji not going to be translated anymore not that it got licensed?

I think some people are getting a bit confused here, due to this being posted in the wrong thread.

If one only follows the releases and doesn't read the discussions or browse the site, they may have first heard about it through that credits page, so...but your larger point remains. I don't think there's any reason to believe that Virgins' Empire is getting licensed as of now.

I'll be adding links and relevant info to both the first post in this thread, and the series description in a short time.

Wonder what Taiyaki purpose is with this. If it’s to make more money I’m not sure it’s going to be achieved... the ones who didn’t pay will continue to do so and just stop reading her manga. So if her purpose was to make her manga more available for english-able readers it’s definitely not going to be fulfilled since significantly less people going to read it now. Which is pretty sad.

On the one hand, it's highly unlikely that at any point in the next few years, Taiyaki will reach the amount of English readers as she reached here. On the other, there is hard data - both public and private - which suggests that she will be getting more financial support than before. Paywalls actually are effective at convincing readers to support the artist, given that some portion of the readership will never pay if it is not necessary to consume the content. This seems doubly true, given that Taiyaki really fills this very specific niche.

I guess I expected her - being self-publishing artist and all - to be much more chill with official English translation eventually uploaded and shared, maybe adopting a webcomic artists strategy with main contest officially shared freely and paying providing access to extra materials and early access to chapters.

Unfortunately (for us), the culture in Japan is just so vastly different, I don't see that being a realistic expectation anytime in the near future. Personally, I find it to already be a very surprising step to allow the currently public chapters to remain that way.

Also I feel like a lot of people misunderstanding the situation: Yuru Oyako manga was not “licensed” in the sense of getting publisher and whatnot - it’s still self-publishing. It’s just Goggled Anon is under contract now and it was Taiyaki’s personal decision for paid-only distribution of his translation.

That's true! My apologies for misstating it in the first place.

Can we have a bro/third wheel tag?

It's a nice idea, I'm not sure yet though, given how rare it is. Maybe best for the images section ?

Being able to search after specific forums would be useful, I think. Like if you want to find out if a forum about [x] already exists or not.

You can technically do this with Google, by typing "site:dynasty-scans.com" (remove the quotation marks) at the beginning of your search. Or use this template. Sadly it's not perfect, but it is a decent way of searching the site, and it's as good as we'll have for anytime in the near future. Would be a great feature to have integrated into the site, though.

The best part of the meme post above is its use of the word "pituitous." Don't let anyone, not even spellcheck, tell you that pituitous is not a word. Now why, exactly, we're talking about allergies and their associated bodily fluids to describe the average shipping art, well, I'll never know (and I'm happier for it).

...I wanted to come into this thread to complain Yuri or something, but the meme was good enough that I'm now sated. Thank you.

WildCreature also has links to most of them in the comments on MD.

Thanks so much! You're a miracle. Added them to the first post in this thread.

This looks cute, but I've never really liked these long strip comics. I find them hard to read for some reason.

Same, it just doesn't "flow" for me the right way, unless it's really spectacularly done. Willing to put up with it for good content, though.
