Light on plot so far but heavy on very captivating imagery for sure...

What's the number for 911

I know it's prob a translation issue but lol

That's not a "translation issue" it's a joke. The same line is in the official localization, it's just something equivalent to what she's saying in Japanese. You can tell it's intentionally a joke if you go back two pages to when she first says it, Mako reacts with confusion to her asking for the number for 911. Chinatsu is just saying a nonsensical little kid line while panicking.

The scene with the little girl and the puppet was superbly executed because even I got social anxiety there because I couldn't parse the situation. Then p. 26/27 just made me burst out in laughter. Either some psychological defence mechanism, or simply the madness leaking into real life.

Nobody is going to mention Niji? Is she trying to gaslight Remu?

The kind of stuff Niji is doing weirdly reminds me of passive aggressive parental abuse, which is fucking weird as hell for a high school peer to remind me of.
God everyone seems like they're in for such a bad time in this manga rn

It's not bad writing, just silly. The author is hitting the target they're aiming for, not the one you want lol.
Also lmao @ that poster saying MC should apologize to her dumb bf for "cheating". Nahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I seriously do not for a second believe that older person listening to her in that montage of her life in America is a romantic interest. I'll go so far as to predict that if the author does give Kanna another partner besides Joe, it'll be a woman. Kanna's had big bisexual energy from the start, with her immediately noticing Aya's feelings towards Mitsuki and teasing her for it, joking about her being Mitsuki's girlfriend.
Joe also had bisexual vibes to me from his style but I can't really cite any text for him, lol. But if Joe gets dumped by Kanna and dates a man, maybe one of the guys introduced as his record shop regulars, I would be very happy lmao

Oh nooooo. Everything feels so ominous and nightmarish this chapter. The thing the little girl literally feels like a shame nightmare or something, and it just spirals from there. Not surprised Azuki didn't take this well, hard to process reality properly when it feels so unreal. This chapter goes past drama into being a psychological thriller like Perfect Blue or Black Swan. Fully expecting that if she ever does carve a head for her Clay Megurus they'll start talking to her. Maybe even moving around her apartment.

Oof. I didn't expect such outrage in the comments (and I'm not sure why I didn't expect it, it's not unusual for everyone to be unreasonable).

I think a number of people here are reasonably upset with a character stating he cannot bless a relationship that cannot bear children related by blood. Since, you know, it feels like something that targets us.

That the story sends the message of "It's not a good reason because they can actually have magic children" similarly stings, because it feels like the author is validating that bigoted opinion... With a solution that actually invalidates those who can't have magic babies.

You phrased that much better than I would have, thank you :)

i love that tongtong literally scruffs her and then bits the back of her neck. i hope this series just becomes "the author's barely disguised fetish" because god damn do they do it well

The author had already made furry porn of these two before even starting the series. It's not disguised at all LMAO

Not a big fan of Kanna potentially changing her entire life on a somewhat lukewarm, whimsical decision to romance her at the airport.

Completely hoping for Mitsuki to get the girl and Joe to fail at it in the same night, because it'll be funny if that happens

Iirc the lesbian escort services in Japan are both real and totally legal, because the county's anti-prostitution laws are specific to either hetero interactions or penetration (can't remember which, I think maybe the latter). There's nothing at all unrealistic about Mashiro's job in this manga's modern Tokyo setting.

I think it's a good general principle that the actions depicted in comedy manga should not be taken as a guidebook for optimal real-life behavior.

As opposed to dramas about highschool girls having affairs, you should learn everything about life from them :P

I agree that it would not be the sole reason. However, any discomfort would have been worked through and processed so that it is now not a big deal for her. I don't know if the initial discomfort was none, a little, or a lot, but I would guess not none.

I can say that, for me, showing someone my pubic hair would be fairly extraordinary. I have been inside gym changing rooms, but that doesn't mean I would do what Mashiro did. Feel free to interpret me having strong body shame, but I can only speak from the perspective of my own life experience here. That doesn't mean I would judge you or another person for acting that way around people who don't mind it, but this behavior would not be typical in terms of myself or what I've experienced from others.

to be clear, I'm not making any moral statements by calling it "shame". That's just the social term for that discomfort about being seen. I think the amount of particular shame you feel in a particular context, whether high medium or low, is just a personality quirk, not a reflection of morality or trauma or normality or whatever. I had a kidney problem a couple years ago that required seeing a urologist on multiple appointments and then finally surgery. The first time I had to be exposed in front of the doctor and nurse I was a little uncomfortable. By the time they wheeled my half-naked ass feet-first into an operating room with a dozen observing medical students in it I just completely didn't care anymore lol. I'm sure plenty of other people going through that would not get used to it, there's probably people out there who think that OR scene I just described is literally nightmare fuel. There's also people out there who can't empathize with why I was uncomfortable with the first doctor.

I agree that the specific context of the conversation was what led to her showing her body casually, I just don't think the context of sex work is particularly important to the showing pubic hair. Any sort of intimate conversation about sex with a platonic friend could lead to this sort of thing, I've experienced this sort of thing without any sex work being involved past or present lol. Some people just have a reduced sense of shame, especially in a private friendly context.

I will say though, the specific pose of sitting on the floor and spreading her legs feels much less intuitive. It feels a little forced by the author tbh, but it's not to the point of unbelievability because sometimes people just do stupid inexplicable shit lol. It'd feel more natural to me if they were drinking a bit, that would make "how do I show off my pubic hair to answer this question? Well, I'm already sitting on the floor so I'll just move my legs out of the way lol" feel pretty understandable as a stupid thing to do.

I could read all the drama but who has the time right?

So I'm just going to ask before diving into this? Do we have a kiss? Are they into each other from the point that even the nettaigyo author would have to pull up an "it was all a dream" to backtrack it?
I just ask this because who has the time nowadays right? And if I'm diving into 80 chapters I'd like to know in advance I already made that mistake with that one manga with the widower and the sister of the dead guy.

Question 1: yes, although not between the main couple yet.
Question 2: yes. There's a reason this manga swapped out the subtext tag for a yuri tag recently.

It's much more likely that nudity and/or showing underwear (we didn't see which, she could have been demonstrating with a gesture) to another woman is simply not a big deal to her due to her experience as a sex worker, especially when she is in a nonsexual context of giving advice to another worker now.

I doubt this is true, and it's implicitly yet another whorephobic sentiment. Don't you think it's more likely that Mashiro was able to take on that job because she already wasn't bothered by letting someone see her body, rather than her entering the job with a "normal" concept of needing to hide your body and being permanently altered by her experience working there? To me, showing pubic hair to a friend asking a pubic hair specific question doesn't seem to be particularly extraordinary to the point of needing to be justified as a character trait, especially for someone from a culture where getting naked with your friends for public bathing is a thing already lol.

I think this story still has plenty of space to end up as a validating portrayal of a character like Io, where her sexuality and tastes are positive aspects of her life and not just trauma scars on her psyche, which would otherwise be vanilla and/or hetero. Even this most recent arc, even with how intense it was, still has deliberate contrast being drawn between how Io is treated by her abuser vs how she's treated by her lover, and what her responses to sex are in those same cases. What went down between Io and Misa was fucked up, obviously flawed, and yet they still ended the night positively because Misa knows how she was acting was fucked and explicitly says it to Io and they understand each other a bit better for it. And the chapter ends with Io wanting to choose Misa but being forced/coersed to go back with Hasa: her feelings about her experiences with the two of them the day before are pretty clearly divided for her, rather than overlapping. They might look superficially similar on the surface level but the mindset, the motive, the nuance, they're all night and day different. Even with Misa at her worst she was still thinking of Io, both in not violating her in a unrecoverable way with finding a blind spot on the balcony for their pubic exposure play, and generally focusing on giving to Io rather than taking from her.
Also with Misa's multiple scenes of her attempting to deny her S nature internally, her arc almost certainly involves becoming a more open and deliberate dom for Io.

Annnd the author makes Makino say something mean to make her the unambiguous bad guy in the argument so we don’t have to deal with Mashiro essentially going behind her back when Makino SAID this girl made her uncomfortable and outright just showing her pussy to said girl. I’m gonna be real that pisses me off quite a bit. Mashiro was unambiguously in the wrong at the end of the last chapter and now she’ll be treated as totally justified because the author had Makino say mean things.

What Mashiro did was misunderstand what boundaries Makino wanted from her, that's a pretty fucking far cry from Makino saying "you'd fuck anyone without resistance or caring". It's a genuinely really disgusting thing to say that's a very common unexamined sentiment that feeds into things like "jokes" about how sex workers can't be assaulted, only "robbed" and, particularly relevant here, thinking that sex work permanently taints a person's character and values. And it's not all that out of nowhere that Makino would say something like that in this moment, because the notion is unquestioned before now. Her relationship with Mashiro didn't really improve her opinion of sex workers, and plenty of people buy sex while still disrespecting them. She clearly instead just stopped thinking of Mashiro as a sex worker at all, but then that label instantly rushed back to her when she saw that scene and interpreted it as sex, even though Mashiro had told her that she quit and Makino has never once before been given reason to mistrust her. If Makino only got mad at "hey don't show your genitals to a casual friend I feel really uncomfortable with it" then she be in the right here, but that's not what she got mad about. She got mad due to her misinterpreting the scene as Mashiro prostituting herself behind Makino's back.

I'm not sure how many of that camp we have left reading, but I would expect most to have not survived this arc.

I believe you underestimate the number of people who keep reading a series just so they can go to the forums after every new chapter to inform everyone how much they hated it. :-)

Sometimes a series goes so far that the hate readers are forced to give up even just responding without reading because the content is so bothersome to them. This manga for example has a lot fewer haters than the "My Girlfriend's Not Here Today," probably because the content is much more confrontational and explicit, even though the content here is normally the kind of stuff they flock to to hate.
You could probably relate this to the "dead dove" concept. This manga is a bag with a dead dove that eagerly wants you to know that's what it contains, compared to manga that tries to hide their dead dove by slowly ramping up to it and using fragrances and trying to present the dead dove with taste and shame.

Totally agree with that praise. Some of the official portrayals like Cheating Detective Satori, it's impossible to see how the Scarlet Devil Mansion inhabitants could have lived together for centuries without killing each other or leaving because they all seem to hate each other and be miserable. This manga does these characters far better, imo, by portraying them as a family of dysfunctional people who still love each other for the most part. Amazing how making things openly gay opens up so many doors to be interesting and funny.
Zun, retire bitch. Time for Risui to take over.

Interesting how the Aizawa kissing this chapter parallels the first chapter, with a big difference in how Michi responds to it: the first time by freezing up like a deer in headlights, the second time by somersaulting away lmao.
I think the point of sympathy with Misaki might be related to Michi's early comic theory that Aizawa is haunting the classroom because while alive she barely got to attend school and do school life things due to her job as an idol. Maybe there was an element of truth to that with Aizawa, which makes her sympathize with Misaki's story here

The discussions here generally strike me as pretty good and engaged, rather than just a bunch of haters or a ghost town. People actually talking about themes and characterization rather than moralizing, which is a rare pleasure in a comment section these days
