as for their relationship, i'd say they were close since akira helped take care of her daughter for her while she was studying/working

I don’t think that “next year, eh?” is ominous foreshadowing; I read it as just Yuzumori adjusting her thinking from being in the moment to considering the longer-term possibilities of their relationship.

Done well, a one-chapter time skip could end this series appropriately and, of course, adorably.

(And also earning it a last-minute “Childhood Friends” merit badge.)

And as for what "Lady Kiyohana" died of, it's not suicide, but a random STD. They talk about her teeth blackening and her health going down.

That was the women gossiping. In the panels, you can see her body/feet are drenched, so I would assume she drowned herself or was pushed in. Unless there's some sort of water cleansing ritual they do in Japan to the dead body right after they find it. It would be weird if she died right after their night together O:
